May 21, 2011 And 11 Other End Of The World Predictions (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 05/11/11 04:12 PM ET   Updated: 07/11/11 06:12 AM ET

You've probably seen the signs, the billboards, and maybe even heard about it on the radio. Apparently, May 21, 2011 is judgment day.

But is the rapture really upon us?

Harold Camping clearly thinks so (again), but it wouldn't be the first time someone incorrectly predicted the end of days. Throughout history there have been predictions about the second coming of Christ and the apocalypse in general.

While some predictions are religiously geared, others have a more "scientific" basis.

How the rapture date is calculated often comes from some interpretation of a rarely used calendar. Famously, William Miller's end of the world prediction based on a little-used Jewish calendar left many of his followers disappointed.

But even after the 21st, there are more apocalypse dates to come, notably December 21, 2012. That date also has its skeptics.

If you're really in the apocalypse spirit, take a few minutes to join our End Of The World Photoshop Competition.

If you haven't heard about 2012, you must be trying to avoid it. Related to a special repetition of numbers on the Mayan Long Count calendar, many people believe Dec. 21, 2012, will mark the end of time. Others believe the key date is Dec. 23, 2012.

This is a perpetual scam by Harold Camping. He knows that the world will not end tomorrow. He already has an answer to why it did not happen and will set a new date real soon.

You see, you can fool some of the people all of the time, and he knows it. Great money--gotta try it!

The money spent on billboards, posters and placards is a pittance compared to the enormous sums of money his broadcasting company has made with this lunacy. He knows that he can continue this charade ad infinitum.

God bless Camping, He better, Camping needs all the help he can get.

Most Christians disagree with this scenario anyway. Relax, atheists.

May 21, 2011 will be remember as the modern day "Greatest Disappointment of all Time" for all of those nutty christians whom are buying what this guy is selling. The true date of the end of the world is not for anyone to know. If you are righteous, you have nothing to worry about. And being righteous has nothing to do with going to church or how may times you pray.

This man does not follow God's word. If he read the book of Mathew he would know that God has said NO ONE, not even his angels, will know when the end is. This guy is setting himself above our Lord and that makes him on satan's side not Gods.

Matthew 24:36 "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." Thats right. Harold Camping thinks he's above Jesus.

Why do people comtinue to say the earth will end on a certain date when it has not happen eleven times before by their sayings? The truth of the matter is no one knows and will never know when the world will end, not even Jesus Christ knows, only God Almighty has that answer. So, I said it, I meant it and you read it so it's done! Al

One of the side effects of the now discontinued asthma drug Marax, is visions of the future in some people. I'm one of those people. Farthest I've seen is the year "I", or 10,009.
So, you can relax, you're good till then. Also, I traced the Mayans to where they are living on the Yucatan Penninsula. There are 70,000 of them there. They are not digging shelters or cancelling their 012 TV Guide subs....Al-

If you are a Christian and believe that JESUS is your lord and savior, that he died on the cross and rose again and Is the son of GOD then you are saved and your only worry should be those left behind. John 3:16. For GOD so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. That's all I'm saying.

There will be none "left behind" - there is no Rapture in the bible.

Complete and ulter nonsense. Jesus didn't create neither man or earth, and should not be worship on the same level of god.

Well now wait a minute. I thought we had until December 21, 2012. When did the time-line get shifted up and why didn't anybody tell me? Did I miss an e-mail or a tweet or a text?

Seriously, if we are doing good things and not committing sins, then we shouldn't be worried since the end has been foretold but we weren't told the day nor the hour nor can we predict it.
