V magazine has devoted its upcoming issue to all-things-Asian, reflecting the fashion industry's current obsession with the pays étranger from Givenchy's statement-making Haute Couture show last January and Ralph Lauren's Art Deco-meets-Chinoiserie duds to designers' accounts of the time they've spent in the country and the rise of Louis Vuitton's man of the moment, Godfrey Gao.
In its "Girls On Top" editorial, V profiles the top Asian beauties taking the modeling biz by storm. There's Tao Okamoto, previously the face of Ralph Lauren and Zac Posen with an entire Japanese Vogue issue in her honor under her belt, along with Liu Wen, the current face of Estée Lauder and first woman of East Asian descent to hit the runway for Victoria's Secret. Joining them are Fei Fei Sun, who was reportedly handpicked by Karl Lagerfeld to walk in his Chanel Paris-Shanghai show and Shu Pei, the face of Vera Wang, who has bagged super-commercial campaigns like the Gap and Maybelline.
"The Asian Issue" hits stands May 12. Ten percent of all sales will be put toward disaster relief in the wake of the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
