Mom Defends Decision To Give 8-Year-Old Daughter, Britney Campbell, Botox (VIDEO)

We first told you about Britney Campbell of San Francisco in March -- she's the eight-year-old aspiring pageant queen already dabbling in Botox and virgin waxes, courtesy of her mom, Kerry. The pair appeared on Thursday's "Good Morning America" to talk about the extreme beauty regimen with Lara Spencer.

Spencer asked Britney questions worthy of a horrifying "Law & Order: SVU" episode: can you show me where you do it? Can you point on your face? Of the Botox, Britney remarked, "It hurt sometimes, but I get used to it," and of the waxing, "It was super, super hard to deal with that...I just don't think it's ladylike to have hair on your legs," however adding that she won't do it again. At least not for a while.

Kerry confessed that Britney didn't actually request either treatment, noting, "We talked about it. She didn't exactly ask me about it but I know that she was complaining about her face having wrinkles and things like that," to which Spencer said, "My son will come home and tell me he wants every Xbox game that existed...that doesn't mean you get it for them." Snap!

But, seriously -- then came a slew of photos depicting Britney with bruises, puffy cheeks and ice packs. In the end, the child says she "looks way better, like, beautiful, pretty, like, all those kinds of nice words." And that might be the most heartbreaking part.

This story should be a lesson to society at large: what has happened to our VALUES? When are we going to stop giving people the message that they are 'beautiful' only if they look like a film star?
Beauty is a gift from God - it is not a 'right'. It is a gift, just as intelligence is, or a sense of humour, or bravery, or excellence in composing music is a gift. Why can't we learn to appreciate each other's gifts and differences? Why do we want to create a society of CLONES?

Every human being is UNIQUE. Let's help the coming generation to focus on what is unique in each person, rather than pursuing vain beauty ideals for the sake of 'feeling good'.

The mother states that, "I'm not the only mother doing it." That makes me so angry to hear this from a so called adult. I don't know how many times I've come down on my kids when they tell me, "but the other kids are doing it. . ." All this in the name of a mother's vanity - to win a pageant.

What's next? Are these Pageant Moms going to start offering sexual favors to the judges in exchange for a crown or even worse, offering up their children to the judges. I can just hear it now, "Well, the other moms are having their kids seduce the judges . . . I'm not the only one."

I know that is far fetched, but COME ON! Several days ago I would have thought that giving your 8-year old botox injections to get rid of her nonexistent wrinkles was far fetched. This poor child was pointing to the area where she has adorable dimples - not wrinkles. Then again, the stress this mother is putting her child through could be causing premature wrinkles.

I pray this child finds some sanity in her life and that she comes out of adolensence with some sense of self worth. What the hell ever happened to the Girl Scouts? Now there's a great organization for young girls.

No "borders" on malpractice about it. It's malpractice. And as for this mother and any other mother who does this - completely disgusting. If the pageant world is "tough" a decent mother would not have their daughter in it.

This is absolutely true. It's sad she feels this is the only arena she can succeed in. Right? THAT is what needs to be healed and addressed. I see potential in this beautiful girl and in her mother, also, who is just the grownup version of a little girl allowed to continue into this vein of philosophy.

Children should not be taken away in this case. However, immediately intervention should apply where all the wrongs of this (there are many) need to be taught.

It would make more sense, as a parent, to remove your child from the pageant scene rather than applying Botox or waxing. Her excuse that other parents do it or the pageant scene is harsh is deplorable. Other parents beat their kids, abuse them, some kill them, that doesn't mean we should all do the same. Have some sense. This will forever alter her perception of her own body image, what is important in life, and in the end, affect her future relationships.

I have a question. Where the hell is the father? What about grandparents? Is there not even one sane person in this family? This poor little girl is clueless about why she's even being given these treatments (i.e., botox, waxing). She had to be coached and prodded by her mother. What 8-year old has wrinkles anyway? She's sending a message to this child that . . . "only beauty makes you worthy."

The whole idea of baby and child beauty pageants should either be abolished or completely revamped. A contest highlighting ones talents and abilities is one thing, but a contest where children are dressed like "trophy wives" is another.

Also these pageants are insane. It could be such a cute idea if it was just little girls dressing up in frilly age appropriate dresses and the most makeup they could have is clear lip gloss. Doing an age appropriate dance/song/talent. That would be CUTE. But instead they are putting a ton of makeup on faces that don't need one bit of makeup. Putting them in 'sexy' outfits and having them do suggestive dances and songs.

Why would anyone want to subject their kids to that level of craziness

Adrienne, let's not hope she loses her kid. Let's hope the state does not take on that power, but that the family has excellent therapy that includes evolving them to discontinue pageants and educate other moms who want to prostitute their daughters (for that's what it really is) away from this activity. More so, teach them valuable skills and worth and maybe even some Spirit. We are all wounded girls this way and must change ourselves and society together.

These types of mother's and ultimately these pageants need to be stopped. The mother's abuse their children and the pageants give them a reason to destroy their child's psyche.
