Houston Press Compiles Texas' 10 Hottest Female Sex Offenders [UPDATED]

The Houston Press has released a list of the “10 Hottest Women on the Texas Sex Offenders List.”

Next to the mugshots (for which the Village Voice affiliate warns, “In some cases, we picked out the best of a series of mugshots. Alternative choices were starkly different. So click on each link before you send any marriage proposals.”) the blogger lists the women’s city, crime and victim information.

The offending “hotties” have assaulted boys and girls ranging from two to 16 years old.

“This kind of thinking that female sex offenders are harmless seductresses rather than predators or perpetrators can set us back decades,” said Torie Camp, deputy director the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA).

According to TAASA, approximately 25,000 adults and 25,000 children are sexually assaulted in Texas every year. Only 18 percent report the crime to the police.

In a response to those who have been “riled up” by the article, list compiler Richard Connelly added the note:

"I can understand how some people might react to this. On the other hand, it's a way of getting readers to look at the info, maybe get them to realize there are people out there like this and they all don't look like the obvious stereotypical pervert."

What’s next in the Houston Press’ series of public service announcements? A calendar of the state’s sexiest pedophiles, maybe? Most eligible sex traffickers?

Change.org has created a petition asking the Houston Press to apologize for the list.

UPDATE: Richard Connelly issued an apology for his post last night. He wrote:

In an attempt to catch attention (and yes, eyeballs and clicks), I thought of the ten hottest female sex offenders. "Hottest" because it's a Web-headline staple for such listicles.

I also wrote an over-the-top intro, trusting that the outrageous headline (Anything putting "hottest" near "sex offenders," I thought, would clearly show over-the-topness) would indicate this was fully intended to shock.

That's why I made the conscious decision to include the victims' ages: To show that "normal-looking" people, people you could pass any day on the street -- or who you might think are "hot" -- are capable of monstrous things.

Glamorizing or trivializing child rape? It did not cross my mind that I was doing that. It should have, it now seems clear.

Until a few years ago just the term "sex offender" was enough to make anyone cringe in disgust. Now we have lists of the hottest offenders. Wow. I don't suppose we'll see a top ten list of male sex offenders anytime soon. What's wrong with this country???

What's wrong with you?You're just pissed because they're women. Male records are available. The point of the story is that you wouldn't know just by looking. Almost like alcoholics, except when they get too far into it, it begins to show.

First let me be clear. I do not and would not ever stick up for a repeat offender. The problem is repeat offenders are few and far between. This idea has roots in the media AND shows such as Law and Order SVU.

Your statistics are flawed Jackie. Your DOJ statistics show recidivism not as true recidivism for a sexual offense. But for any crime committed after the original offense. Such as Probation/Parole violation, Shoplifting, DUI... It does not have to be a sexually based offense to be considered a re-offender in DOJ statistics.

"U.S. Department of Justice Statistics­: Criminal Offender Statistics Sex offenders were about four times more likely than non-sex offenders to be arrested for another sex crime after their discharge from prison" ---- This is just laughable. Did you bother to read this beyond 4 times? How does a non-sex offender get arrested for ANOTHER sex crime after their discharge from prison? Seeing they were not there for a sex crime in the first place and did not get arrested for a sex crime. This whole statement is ridiculous.

Here are some REAL studies done by California, South Carolina and Washington State.

Age of consent laws (internationally) were originally drafted for young women under the age of 16. (Thus the international age of consent being 16)

There were no psychological considerations, or anything of the sort. The laws were drafted out of concern for the high maternal mortality rate of young women under the age of 16.

Modern medicine in most civilized countries have now made this a non-concern. Thus why many countries such as Spain (13), Germany and Romania (14) and several others have obviously lowered their age of consent laws.

The title of this item is offensive and its content unspeakably crass. That such a subject would appear in a major newspaper is hardly a surprise given the nature of contemporary media. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why the US has so many problems. The Fourth Estate essentially fell asleep on the job and no longer reports serious news. Instead it involves itself in perpetual ratings wars by publishing garbage with the object being increased circulation not education of the citizenry.

This is one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen. To exploit the sexual assault of children for web clicks is reprehensible.

I think we are all already aware that atrractive people can be monsters. For this situation specifically, there have already been plenty of high-profile cases of attractive/normal-looking female sex offenders.

The author should be fired for being a j@ckass.

The free access to porn on the web has desensitized people to these types of acts. Anything is accessible, all fantasy sexual activities are acted out including student-teacher sex. I am sure that these people probably watched these types scenarios many times on their computer before acting on them in real life.

I agree with those commentators who say this trivializes sexual offense. These perverse women are criminals who should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. A long stretch in prison, castration, and prolonged psychiatric care should be imposed upon them as it is or should be upon men who engage in these horrific actions.
