Kerry Campbell, Mom Who Gives 8-Year-Old Botox, Being Investigated By Child Welfare Services (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 05/13/2011 9:30 am Updated: 07/13/2011 5:12 am

"Good Morning America" reports that San Francisco Child Welfare Services is now investigating Kerry Campbell, the mother who recently defended her decision to give Botox to her eight-year-old daughter Britney.

Trent Rohrer of the San Francisco Human Services Agency told cameras, "It's pretty unusual for a mom to be injecting an 8-year-old with Botox. Certainly, it's grounds for an investigation." The agency apparently got involved because there were too many unknowns, like Kerry's training, where the Botox she used came from, and whether her daughter's pediatrician was consulted.

"GMA" also noticed tons of backlash after Lara Spencer's segment aired on Thursday morning. On "The View," Sherri Shepherd did some hand slapping while saying, "This is the dumbest momma I have ever seen in my life," and pageant coach Valerie Hayes remarked, "This is not what pageantry is about and I'm sorry to say she's only doing a disservice to her daughter and will never win the title that she so desperately seeks."

Spencer also asked the show's Facebook audience, "Is it okay to inject Botox into an 8-year-old?" and 97 percent said it's wrong. Clearly, the other three percent misunderstood the question.

Remember when your mom told you not to make faces because it might stay that way. I hope the little girl wasn't frowning and squinting when she was give botox.....

The lady tried to downplay it, however, after watching some of these pageant moms, I wouldn't be surprised that this is going on all the time SMH!

Common sense is not common

This is sad and deserves to be investigated but don't be surprised if we find out that this is commonplace in the "little miss" pagent scene. These are stage moms on steroids and will do any number of perverse things to get an "edge" in order to win...and curse their girls to a lifelong battle with body and self-esteem issues. The self-help books just write themselves.

This pagent for children stuff is just weird in all kinds of ways they won't let me print here. I'm sure there are "good" ones, but I have a major problem with the whole concept.

There is something WRONG with doing this to 8 year olds and younger. It makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

I don't agree with the mother's decision, but it makes me wonder about child services. My husband's ex used to abuse his kids, he called child services and they told him "Well, she's just stressed out right now." He finally has custody after hiring a lawyer for $8,000. Just because that story went public, I guess they decided to do something. Too bad they wouldn't do that for children that really need to be taken from the home.

What possible reason could a child require Botox for?
06:50 PM on 05/16/2011
Obviously no child needs Botox for cosmetic reasons, but Botox is also used to treat uncontrollable muscle spasms and motor neuron disorders.

i agree with every comment on here. this woman is an unstable, narcissistic, child abusing mother masking her deranged views under the guise of instilling confidence in her 8 year old.

newsflash: she's 8, lady. get help.

So when will our law makers create regulations regarding plastic surgery for children and teens?
05:32 PM on 05/15/2011
Is there some sort of 'beauty' pageant mandate that requires the parents who abuse their children (by placing them in such contests and then subjecting their offspring to torture as a part of the ordeal) be especially out of shape and homely?

Apart from pedophilia, are these pageants vehicles of vengeance by the ugly upon the beautiful w/children being used as voodoo dolls in the revenge?

I just looked at some Google images of child beauty pageants. It is just too creepy. The poor little girls. They look like they're 25 going on 5. Seriously horrible.

They seriously need to stop these pageants for tots. It is clearly not good for the child.

who ever came up with the idea of child pageants and the people who support it ....should be arrested and not be able to have children....this is a really sick business...very sad...little children dont even have a chance at a normal life....they should be removed from their parents!!!

I bet all the other pageant moms are hiding their child's botox as we speak. Tip of the ice berg.

Those child pagents should have rules that ban make up, wigs, wearing suggestive costumes, tanning sprays, false eye lashes, false teeth, contacts, botox, any type of waxing, etc. Those contests should honor children for their talents, poise, manners, academic achievement, etc. When I've caught the 'Toddlers and Tiaras' shows all I see is little girls dressed to look like Tammy Faye Baker circa 1986 or drag queens. There is nothing beautiful about those children.
05:33 PM on 05/15/2011
Nor is there anything beautiful about their parents. Maybe the best way to deal w/it would be to declare these pageants dangerous to children and outlaw them as such.
07:08 PM on 05/16/2011
Pageants like Toddlers and Tiaras are called glitz pageants.

There's ANOTHER type of pageant that doesn't get picked up by the media, called natural pageants. In natura pageants, make up, wigs, wearing suggestive costumes, tanning sprays, false eye lashes, false teeth, contacts, botox, any type of waxing, etc are NOT ALLOWED. In natural pageants, the child must be dressed for their age and look completely natural, even if they wear awkward-looking glasses. Also, in natural pageants, the emphasis is on the interview, where the child must answer a question (usually something like "how will you use your earnings to help the world). Please read up on the difference between glitz and natural pageants. I've never seen either pageants, but I support natural pageants more so than glitz pageants.
