NEW YORK -- Katie Couric plans to announce on Friday's “CBS Evening News” that her last night anchoring the broadcast will be Thursday, May 19, according to a CBS source.
Two weeks ago, Couric ended speculation about whether or not she’d stay at the newscast in an interview with People magazine. Since Couric's CBS contract is up June 4, it was clear the date would be soon. But Couric didn’t say then, or since, what day would be her last.
"60 Minutes" anchor Scott Pelley will take over the evening newscast on June 6. It's unclear yet who'll fill in during the next few weeks.
Couric has been talking to several networks about next hosting a syndicated daytime talk show. She's not expected to have any additional announcement on her forthcoming plans tonight, according to a source.
