Human Remains Found In Yonkers Home, Man Possibly Dead For 8 Years (VIDEO)

WATCH: Horrifying Discovery In Yonkers Home

Police on Friday discovered the remains of a man believed to have been dead for between three and eight years inside a home in Yonkers.

Neighbors told LoHud.com that the woman who lived there, Christina Swenson, 61, recently checked into a psychiatric institution in upstate New York. She told staff at the facility that there was a body in the home.

The Westchester Medical Examiner confirmed that the body is that of Swenson's father, Roy.

CBS New York reports that the home was filled with so much trash and debris that the police, who had originally planned on investigating the house on Thursday, had to return on Friday with a hazardous materials team. It was then that they discovered the body in the home.

Police said they were waiting for the cause of death before deciding how the investigation would proceed. Swenson was released from the psychiatric facility, which police did not identify, and is not considered a danger to anyone, Itzla said. Police did not know where she went.
