PlayStation Network Down Again: Users Report Outages The Same Day Sony Restores PSN Service

Playstation Network Down

After a massive global outage, Sony began restoring service to the PlayStation Network on Sunday. However, some are reporting that the PSN is already down again.

Users have taken to Twitter to complain about the alleged outage, which apparently occurred only hours after Sony began bringing the network back up.

"Playstation Network is Back down looks like the servers have crashed," tweets @Lee240788.

"Playstation Network was back up for about 10 minutes before going down again for maintenance. Nice work Sony!" tweets @Tomagefrais.

The Twitter feed for Sony's EU blog offered the following words to users: "Please bear with us as we continue working on #PSN restoration. We are experiencing extremely heavy traffic."

Sony representatives were not immediately available for comment, but Steve Reynolds, Sony's PSN Store operations manager, tweeted a bit of insight for his followers.

"All - I know PSN is down for maintenance," tweeted Reynolds. "You're all too eager :) Bare with it."

Have you experienced this recent service disruption, or is the PSN working fine for you? Leave your tips in the comments.

Haven't bought into the console as the best multiplayer platform, controls are bad, graphics are inferior to the PC, and if the network goes down like in this instance, no gaming period. Console is still a single player platform to me, and while I love the big TV for the single player experience, PC is still the best for multiplayer in almost every way. It's nice that PS Network is free and all, but I still rarely use it for multiplayer. It could go offline another few weeks, wouldn't miss it.

Bluray is worthless, i used to have a ps3 like about a year ago now and i had it for about 3 years and i can honestly say over those 3 years i used bluray a total of ZERO times and $50 a YEAR is definatly not that much...especialy considering that for the past month we could play online and before it went down xbl was better and after it goes back up stably xbl will still be better, ps3 loses better luck with ps4 =/

I use my PS3 a little bit, but honestly, there's nothing I use it for I couldn't just do on the XBox 360.  And at least MS can keep their online service up.

All the cry babies. Man u guys need to quit whining. Its a free service. I could understand if u paid for online subscription but u dont so be patient and the problems will be fixed.
04:23 PM on 05/16/2011
"Free" as in part of the purchase price for a $300 console and $60 games, you mean. Or do you think the toys that come with the Happy Meal are "free" too?
11:54 AM on 05/18/2011
it's worth it!! With the XBOX you have to pay $60 per game, then pay $100 more to play online, that's $160 total!! But with the PS3 you get everyhting in one pack, worth $400: BluRay player, HD Sourround sound 7.1 that the XBOX don't even provide, 3-D compatible, freee online service, & you get everything in HD!! That's why Japanese stuff is better than American because they are more advanced!! duuuh!!

It's not really free because no one would buy a console that could not hook up to the Internet to play the multiplayer games that drive sales.

We'll probably see this effect played out over the coming months as playstation sales plummet.

If the mulitpayer games on the PS3 could be played without having to access the PSN then people would not be upset. If you pay $80 for a game and you can't play it, you have a right to be upset.

The subscription price you pay is included when you buy the PS3. Nothing is free. If it was free, you could access it without a playstation.

It's because so many gamers have limited patience and attention spans. Most I've talked to are more upset they can't connect to play their shoot-em-ups than they are about their personal information being compromised. How backwards is that? Go outside and get some exercise and wait until the network's back up and running smoothly. That ain't gonna' happen if everyone tries to cram into the servers at the same time. Patience people. Patience. There's a whole wide world out there besides games. Really there is.
02:12 PM on 05/16/2011
Its not about going outside and getting excersize my friend. These consoles arent $60-$100. They are the MOST expensive items that MILLIONS of these kids and young adults own. After investing hundreds more for games (Entertainment) it kinda p*ss*s someone off when your hobby is unavailable due to something u have no say over. Yes things happen and most intelligent people realize this is a world of technology and things get hacked. But u cant tell me that when they are told its back on after all that time and they play for 20 min and its goes back off again they arent gonna be angry and keep trying all day wondering if its just theirs or not. Thats like letting ur dog lick a peice of bacon and then saran wrap it and put in his bowl. Just saying
03:20 PM on 05/16/2011
Actually, it is about going outside and getting exercise. Stress, pressure, anger, etc can all be alleviated by doing something else to take your mind off the cause. And HERE is the kicker: the cause for someone rupturing their spleen or nerve here is NOT due to PSN crashes or outages. It's unfortunately a person's addiction, lack of entertainment/social network outside of the virtual world, or ____(blank, insert another reason). GO OUTSIDE AND GET EXERCISE--LOL.
11:56 AM on 05/18/2011
LMAO i know like it's true what you saying, my PS3 & my network is running fine but i can't play it because i have stuff to do & like the people who don't have nothing to do, they should play some table games like puzzle, card, & that good old stuff
01:06 PM on 05/16/2011
it was down for about 30 minutes or so, and it was a known downage(check the PS BLOG) due to massive password resets
12:05 PM on 05/16/2011
mine is working fine, but i can't access the PlayStation Store :( anyways PS3 is way better than XBOX!!!
01:04 PM on 05/16/2011
it's going up in stages. online game play is on at the moment, the store will go up later this month
02:53 PM on 05/16/2011
Nope thats why it got hacked lol
12:05 PM on 05/16/2011
Mine was up and running all day Sunday.Played 4 hours of Black Ops and later that night watched Netflix.Auto sign on worked just fine. The Store was the only thing that came up with not in service. The fact that there servers got hack does not make Sony a bad gaming console.Servers get hack all the time and yes personal info right along with it.I have an original Fat PS3 and have never had any problems with it.I will stick with the PlayStation over X-Box any day of the week.A little inconvenience is better then paying to play the games on line after I have already shelled out 60 dollars for the game.
12:05 PM on 05/16/2011
does anyone here work for a living?
02:23 PM on 05/16/2011
Yes. Thats why we can afford Playstations ;)
11:11 AM on 05/16/2011
all i know is if psn aint workin when i get home im switchin to xbox permanently
02:14 PM on 05/16/2011
Good luck paying all that money every month. Ps3 will have an unhackable system better than Xbox when its all over.
02:51 PM on 05/16/2011
unhackable? haha good one
03:22 PM on 05/16/2011
Why is that? Will they be using Mac OS? ;)
