Larry David has never been shy of pushing boundaries; the cranky TV icon has mined race, sex, disability and religion for uncomfortable laughs on both "Seinfeld" and his own HBO show, "Curb Your Enthusiasm." With the show's eighth season premiering next month, word has come out that David Will be digging into a new topic for discomfort: Parkinson's Disease.
TV Guide reports that Michael J. Fox has signed on to guest star in an upcoming episode of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," playing himself as Larry's upstairs neighbor in his new New York apartment. Fox, who has battled Parkinsons for two decades, won't try to hide his symptoms; instead, they'll be part of the joke.
He told TV Guide that the episode has Larry believing that, "I'm being symptomatic just to annoy him -- a whole passive-aggressive thing. He's complaining because I'm shuffling and making noise upstairs. It's very funny."
Fox had a guest run this past season on CBS' drama "The Good Wife," playing a lawyer with Parkinsons. He recently covered Good Housekeeping, talking in part about how much he enjoyed returning to the small screen -- he has earned six Emmys in his career -- and how he's adjusted his approach to acting.
"That was really fun, and it's nice with work to still have a sense of, 'What do I bring to this? What tools do I have?' Not concentrating on what tools I don't have," he said. "I don't have the physical subtlety that I had before. I don't have the elasticity of expression that I had. I have to work to configure my face or to physically situate myself in a way that serves the script or my immediate physical needs. But at the same time, this experience has given me a gravitas, a kind of steadiness and a stillness, even in my motion, that I didn't have before. It's really taught me how to be quiet."
