A Woodside mom, terrified her mother would discover she was pregnant, allegedly threw her newborn child in a bathroom trash can at Elmhurst Hospital.
Now Dawa Lama could face murder charges after her daughter died Wednesday.
Lama had already been charged with first-degree assault and reckless endangerment.
No one seems to have known that Lama was pregnant, including her boyfriend.
The baby had been in critical condition at Long Island Jewish Hospital since May 10.
The Daily News reports that, under New York State law, mothers can leave a baby within five days of being born at any city hospital or fire house without facing charges.
