Colorado Springs police officer Joshua Carrier who was already arrested for buying child pornography last week has been re-arrested on Thursday evening on suspicion of sexually assaulting several children.
The Colorado Springs Gazette reports that on May 11, Carrier was arrested after a detective discovered child pornography DVDs in Carrier’s home, next to his bed and pictures of nude children on his personal laptop.
In addition, prior his arrest, Carrier was already the subject of an internal affairs review after a complaint was filed against him that during a middle school sporting event, (Carrier was a school resource officer at Horace Mann Middle School in Colorado Springs) he allegedly pulled his shirt up to reveal his gun in an act of intimidation towards an attendant of the game, as The Huffington Post reported.
In a statement made to 7News, Colorado Springs police Sergeant Steve Noblitt said:
As of this date, the Crimes Against Children Unit has identified multiple victims.
A student on the wrestling team at Horace Mann made an anonymous statement to a CBS4 affiliate in Colorado Springs that Carrier placed his hands on student wrestler's bodies frequently when checking for ringworm, a common infection that wrestlers can catch:
He would actually take us into his own office one by one and touch us and look at us and stuff.
At the time of arrest, no statement has been made regarding how many sexual assault reports the department received about Carrier or if the reports stemmed from his work with children. Carrier had many assignments that put him in contact with several children as school resource officer at Horace Mann Middle School, his youth advisor position at the Colorado Springs Police Department Explorer Program or the Police Athletic League where served as a coach.
Carrier was booked into the El Paso County jail on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
