Princess Beatrice's Hat Sells For Over $130,000 On eBay

LONDON -- Auction site eBay says a bidder has paid 81,100 pounds ($131,648) for the silk bow hat worn by Princess Beatrice to last month's royal wedding.

The 22-year-old granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II put the Philip Treacy creation on sale to raise money for UNICEF and Children in Crisis.

The silk hat caused a stir at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29.

Since then, it has been compared to antlers and a pretzel, and has been photoshopped into scores of unlikely scenarios on the Internet. Forty bidders vied for the prize, but eBay did not reveal the identity of the winner.

The auction ended Sunday.

A huge thank you to Princess Beatrice for auctioning off her wedding hat (aka the "Uterus and Falopian Tube Craft Project")! It is a brilliant use for such an unusual fashion statement and one the charity will truly appreciate.

The instant I saw "that hat" I realized it is a stylized True Lover's knot..they are always a little over the top because they are so "old fashioned". Take a look at Her Majesty's broach which she wore on Williams Wedding Day and you will see the resemblance. I thought it was so nice to see the Queen add that little special touch to her dress..a very personal touch. And as well, Beatrice. Bless her for doing such a nice thing to help others and for being such a darn good sport about it & Honey, we arent laughing at you. Some people have no flair..I have a tad too much! If you're that age and you dont wear something pizzazzy you will regret it when you are older. To the Media which tried to make her the butt of the joke, I would say the laugh is on you! I like Bea's Bonnet!

Anyways, I'm not surprised that it sold for a lot. It's immediately recognizable, and world famous. And honestly? I thought Princess Beatrice took way too much flack for it. It's kind of cute. :)
