Queen Latifah: Plus-Size Is A Word We Need To Bury At This Point (PHOTOS)

Queen Latifah has added "slash-designer" to her lengthy title, debuting a line of apparel, handbags and hair extensions for HSN, Women's Wear Daily reports.

The collections, called Queen, are set to launch this August and priced from under $100 up to $300. The offerings will come in a range of sizes; that's not to say the line is exclusively for plus-size women, a term Latifah abhors:

"It is a word we need to bury at this point," she said. "It's for all sizes. Even just taking into account the various body shapes and body types of women as they range through those sizes, and making sure that everything is sized properly for them, has been exciting."

In fact, sizing was one of the reasons that Latifah stayed on the sidelines of the celebrity design game. She told the fashion newspaper, "I felt like larger girls were not respected, even though we are huge consumers. I felt the marketplace didn't respect us in the way it should. I was not going to step out with a clothing line that didn't respect a fuller-figured woman or a curvaceous woman, and really all women."

Take a look at two of the pieces from Queen Latifah for HSN and head over to WWD.com to see -- and read -- the rest.

I agree that why do we have to catergorize anyone- men or women- we are who we are. I have been a size 26 and now at 12/14- The clothing industry never considered designing clothes for the larger sizes and steered away from them totally- then they saw the untouched market for the woman who was craving stylish clothing and would pay anything to look great instead of the frumpy styles that were out in the larger sizes. Queen, you go girl- you are gorgeous, classy and I do hope that your designs come in all sizes- I love that dress and would buy it in a minute, the handbag is chic, yet with class without all the Bling that many designers keep on doing. Love the bling- but not all the time. Queen you look stunning- a very beautiful woman and I thank you for being a wonderful role model for all of us. Truthfully, I have never met a man that told me he loves a size 0!! they always say they like the "curves" the size 0 girls do not appeal to the real man!! Love who I am- BTW, I am 60 yrs old and still consider myself a sexy real size lady!!!! Good Luck Queen- I cannot wait for your clothing line on HSN!!

I have been in the apparel industry all my adult life and there are two terms being used that I hear...one is Junior-Plus and the other is Womens. Junior-Plus refers to products for younger women and Womens refers to more mature women.

I honestly havent heard plus-size in ages.

On a further note, I can tell you that the Junior-Plus market is vastly underserved. These women get a lot of dumbed down fashion and what they actually want is the same things their skinnier friends are wearing.

When I was at my heaviest (size 16), I preferred thick to full-figured or plus-sized, but then real heavy women started calling themselves thick and I had to think up a new name lol

I have a friend from Miami who was studying with me in London. He kept talking about all the 'delicious thick women', our English friends finally pulled him to one side to explain that in the UK 'thick' means dumb. :-)

I dont like the term myself, it lacks delicacy.

Plus size a problem term. Fleshy or Heavy probably better terms to use... from a far

Perhaps Latifah will help design clothing for the "mature" woman. Clothing that gives in the middle but remains true to size everywhere else. I am thinking specifically about slacks, frustrating to buy slacks to fit waist and stomach but then have yards of material in the legs and rear.

I love the dress depicted here. I would have to wear it with a jacket of some sort (my arms aren't what they used to be). It's going to be one of those go-to dresses for me and one I think is actually season-less depending on accessories. Good for The Queen (both of us). lol

Amen to that, sister.
