The creative spirit in Denver is exploding and we have a slew of arts districts to prove it. From eclectic to gritty, here are our favorite Mile High art walks.
Tennyson Street Art Walk: The longest art walk in Denver – it began its 13th year in April – this Berkeley neighborhood event features local artists along with independently owned boutiques and shops. Musicians play on street corners where the entire family – canines included – can loiter as long as they want to take in the scene. Hungry? Santa Fe Arts District: With over 60 galleries, this eclectic art and cultural walk runs the gamut from high end galleries to working artists’ studios. Don’t miss galleries tucked between and above the obvious street side spaces – this older neighborhood is filled with hidden gems. String quartets, flute trios, street performers and full bands – along with plenty of free wine and snacks – liven up galleries, courtyards, studios and alleyways along this route. Old South Pearl Street: This offbeat neighborhood, first developed in the late 1800s, has enjoyed multiple resurgences over the last century -- with yet another in the works thanks to local flavor in art, food and drink. It's an affordable place to find original art: unique handmade jewelry as well as classic and whimsical home pieces. First Fridays monthly, April - Dec., 4pm - 8pmS. Gaylord Street Galleries Art Walk: One of the city’s newest art walks, the art walk along Gaylord Street is also one of our smallest. With only a handful of galleries involved in this tree-lined Wash Park neighborhood, it’s easily accessible and blends high end art with casual comfort. RiNo Art District: Located in north Denver, this industrialized River North arts area hosts both First Fridays and Second Saturdays (www.rivernorthart.com/second-saturdays). You’ll find more than wall art… sculptors, metal workers, architects and furniture designers also call this district home.
