AT&T announced that it will roll out the high-speed 4G LTE mobile networks to Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Atlanta and San Antonio this summer.

According to the press release, AT&T will also add another 10 or more markets in the second half of the year, as well as adding 20 4G devices, some of which will be LTE capable. AT&T stated that it plans to offer 70 million Americans access to LTE this year.

"We plan to invest $19 billion in our wireless and wireline networks and other capital projects this year," the release said.

Competitor Verizon has already launched its own LTE network in 38 markets, with plans to cover 76 by June 16. Verizon's LTE network suffered a major outage last month, however.

How many times have you avoided a near accident because someone was talking or texting on their cell phone while driving and damn near killed you or your family?

People are dying; men, women and children are losing their lives daily because of the actions of careless cell phone users. Yes, I’m saying force the cell phone manufactures to make a simple change in cell phone software to connect the built-in GPS to shut off the phone when the cell phone is moving over 10 miles per hour.

How many deaths, how many injuries, and how much property damage must occur before the cell phone companies fix the problem?

This isn't 4G. 4G is defined internationally by 100 Mbs data delivery in high mobility. LTE can not deliver that. ELTE can, but it will not be available for a couple of years. It is important to delineate between market speak and true definition, since the operating companies will only ask for more money for something they've previously sold to the customer.

What good is a 4G network when the (i)phone you're using quits working when you hold it in your hand?........... Plus, you need to speak Hindi when calling their customer service to complain about the dropped calls...............

Who cares what this lousy company is going as their product is over rated, over priced and the customer service is all but non-existent.

Don't type using the ampersand "and" symbol or else your post will get cut off. Type out "ATT" or "ATandT" instead. {{-_-}}

Doesn't AT&T already have 4G in most big cities already? I see blue all over their coverage map in certain areas. Or is this just a list of cities that are being added to the already existing 4G area?

hahahahaha, I have been predicting this ever since AT&T came out with their new commercials to counter Verizon. AT&T has been calling their HSPA+ network "4G" because technically they can. T-Mobile does it as well. The only problem is that AT&T, unlike T-Mobile, has had plans for a long time to release a LTE network. This leads to the same problem you are experiencing. Confusion. No doubt their will be costumers that buy a "4G" phone only to realize there is a faster one being released that they will not be able to access.

HSPA+ is simply an upgrade to the 3G data technology AT&T employs called High Speed Packet Access. It is no way a new technology, it just allows enough of a jump in speed to use the 4G moniker. LTE, or Long Term Evolution, is a brand new technology that promises to bring speeds much faster than any current generation, as well as allow easy software upgrades to further enhance the speed.

They have what I guess is technically 4G, but more like 3.5G. They have what is known as HSPA which is faster than 3G, but not as fast as LTE.

What is good about that is, while Verizon has more LTE right now, areas you don't get LTE fall back to their CDMA 3G (so still no talk and data at the same time) which is slower than HSPA , where ATT doesn't have LTE their customers will fall back onto HSPA

Uhhh...congratulations? Does this mean that my friends with iPhones on AT&T will finally be able to make phone calls?

Also, Verizon will have blanketed most of the country in LTE by the time AT&T has a dozen cities.
