Colorado's San Luis Valley Is A UFO Hotspot With A Specially Built UFO Watchtower

Want to see some unexplained lights in the sky or slow moving cigar-shaped or saucer-shaped objects? Gas up the car and head out to the southwest section of Colorado.

The San Luis Valley of the Centennial State is reportedly a paranormal-rich area of the American landscape, with UFO sightings going back to the 1600s.

When Judy Messoline first moved here in 1995 to raise cattle, she became intrigued by the many UFO stories told to her by the locals. She eventually abandoned the ranch idea and in 2000, built a special UFO Watchtower, a rectangular metal platform standing 10 feet high above the ground where up to 60 people at a time can gather and swap tales of unexplained experiences.

"We see objects that we cannot explain -- lights that go real fast and stop, or they'll go in one direction and suddenly go in the opposite direction without stopping," Messoline told AOL.

"The closest one we saw from here between the tower and the mountains was cigar-shaped -- narrow and really long -- and illuminated from the inside. Over a dozen people saw it moving rapidly from the north to the south."

So far, of the nearly 60 sightings since she opened her alien lookout, Messoline has had 26 sightings of her own.

"During the day, we see silver balls and saucer-shaped objects. We've also had reports of people driving down the country roads out here who've seen saucers flying right next to them," she added.

Since 2000, an estimated 20,000 visitors have journeyed from around the world to Messoline's UFO Watchtower hoping for a glimpse at an otherworldly sight in the sky. And even if they aren't lucky enough to spot an unknown light or craft, they're seldom disappointed.

Messoline's tower sits on 600 acres of land she owns just outside the town of Hooper, where skywatchers experience the majesty of the Rocky Mountains (surrounded by the San Juan and Sangre de Cristo ranges) by day. At night, the incredibly clear, non-polluted skies present the wonders and astronomical vistas of the Milky Way galaxy.

And then there's Messoline's "vortex garden" -- a large, widespread area where there are, according to various psychics, portals to another universe. It's a place where Messoline encourages visitors to leave personal trinkets behind.

"Folks really like the idea of leaving something of theirs in that garden: sunglasses, hats and toys -- some things are really so nice that I have to patrol the garden to make sure that things stay put."

Messoline has her own theory about why her particular 600-acre plot and the surrounding environment are so UFO, vortex energy-friendly.

"There have been documented UFO sightings here since the 1600s, so it's nothing new and it's considered the nation's hot spot for UFO experiences," she said. "Some say it's the spirituality of the valley -- native Americans consider the valley floor as sacred."

If UFOs aren't your cup of tea, there are other activities near this out-of-the-way tourist spot that might suit your fancy. Don't miss the local alligator farm, the Great Sand Dunes National Park, a mountain train and geothermal hot spring pools.

And you can't beat the price to check out the UFO Watchtower. "We charge $2 a person, or $5 a car -- whichever's cheapest," said Messoline.

Her original dream was to have a log house on 100 acres with a 6-foot-high privacy fence around it, to keep out the neighbors. Messoline ended up with the log house but with no privacy fence.

And after so many years of sightings of strange lights and objects in the sky above and around her Colorado home, Messoline's belief system has been deeply affected.

"I used to always believe that there had to be life someplace else because the universe is just too massive for there not to be. But I know it now."

There is so much daytime photos of UFOS with credible witnesses over the years in my opinion UFOS exist and yes they may have other origins then our planet.

There are UFO sighting that very well van be from our top secret programs but what I am speaking about is way out there.

Pilots and passenger viewing a massive UFO during the day and taking photos with radar viewing the craft from the ground.

Crafts approx. a mile in size witness by many on a clear night at a close distance blocking out the stars of many because of its size. The craft was seen in more then one state.

Those who are skeptics please do some research on the subject and review videos during daytime sighting that include many witnessing and videos of the same sightings.

In very religion they speak of none earthlings and craft coming down from the sky and today the same is being talked about.

The truth in my opinion would bring a great amount of chaos and fear. We are not a peaceful world today and in the past because of EGO, POWER, and ignorance we have religious wars for over a thousand years killing and maiming millions. It was NEVER the religion but the teachers who distorted the ideas and no longer taught the spirituality connected with religions.

Things are improving with people as i see it and perhaps soon there will be the truth disclosed.

I too believe in UFOs. The problem is that the vast majority of UFO enthusiasts forget what UFO means- UNIDENTIFIED Flying Object. There is something seriously irrational about making the unevidenced assumption that if it hasn't been identified, it must be an extraterrestrial or paranormal vessel of some sort.

Do you have any links to credible information about some of these former UFOs which have been identified as alien "crafts?" A link on YouTube to a shaky 30 second video doesn't count. I'm especially interested in the day time sightings. After 10 years of UFO investigation, I've still not found any UFO sighting that could be reasonably claimed to be some sort of extraterrestrial craft or ship.

Unfortunately, religion is deadly enough by itself without the negative influence of nefarious teachers. You see much of this is the scripture of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. As Psalm 137 says, "Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks." A loving god is Yahweh.

jokes aside: this is in region where alledgedly Area 51 research has been moved over all the public interest and consumption of Area 51 lore. however if such sitings date back to 1600 and i suspect before if you could ask elder Native Americans in that region of southeast Colorado. so are we putting our bases near ET's nest?

That's if you want to believe that stuff. Otherwise, you will be surprised of how nonsensical that stuff is.

But don't believe me. Listen for your self.

Chuckle! Stare intently into the dark or an unclear image for something you expect to see and soon it will appear - perceptual readiness.

Do you mean UFOs of extraterrestrial origin?

This is a fun place that restores my faith in the fundamental weirdness of my home state. It's just up the highway from the alligator ranch in Hooper (where you book a good old fashioned 'gator wrestle). You can take the Watchtower as just a bit of fun and buy some "UFO dust" or a bumper sticker ("Buckle Up! It makes it harder for the aliens to suck you out of your car!") at the gift shop. Or, if you're a true believer, you can find a sympathetic ear for your UFO tale.

There are a lot of UFO sightings in the San Luis Valley--probably because the military still does lots of training flights there. But if you talk to enough people out west, you'll eventually hear a pretty strange story about something seen in the sky. (Yes, I've got my own tale, too. 8-)

Haven’t they heard? There are NO UFO’s. These are all just crafts built by Lennon’s agents and flown by well-trained, genetically altered children from Moscow to the American deserts.

We know this is true because of that book just published which is irrefutably based on one un-named source. So it’s got to be true.

perhaps when we progress to a point where we can work together as a species and cease to be divided by our countries, religions, and ideals these ET's might actually consider us worth contacting. As of now we are probably just a primitive and barbaric species that has much to learn...

I suspect the Earth is "alive" in a sense with energy that it emanates from specific places. Aliens originally came here to "gas up", if you will, on this energy and for minerals. I believe what the ancient Mesopotamians believed; that humans were"created" from native hominid stock for the specific purpose of mining. I also think Aliens continue to come here for the energy and sometimes stay here to sightsee. I'll bet there's a standing order to not interfere with the local wildlife (us) but, just like all tourists, they can't resist the temptation. That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

One of those "alive" places could be Skinwalker Ranch:

The ranch, located in west Uintah County bordering the Ute Indian Reservation, was popularly dubbed the "UFO ranch" due to its ostensible 50-year history of odd events said to have taken place there. According to Kelleher and Knapp, they saw or investigated evidence of close to 100 incidents that include vanishing and mutilated cattle, sightings of unidentified flying objects or orbs, large animals with piercing yellow eyes that they say were not injured when struck by bullets, and invisible objects emitting destructive magnetic fields. Among those involved were retired Army Colonel John B. Alexander who characterized the NIDSci effort as an attempt to get hard data using a "standard scientific approach".

Wow, a 10 foot platform! That will help you see over that sage. At 10', you're so close to the sky that you could just reach out and touch a UFO or a basketball hoop backboard. My apartment windows are probably about 9 or 10 feet off the ground... it's like I'm living in the clouds. I pity the people who live their lives on the lower levels, never knowing what it's like to look out into the sky!

Totally amusing. I'm waling on air over your comments.
11:15 AM on 05/25/2011
Why not? Anything is possible. Science has proven that and is still trying to prove things it has deemed unexplainable.

In the midst of Colorado's own incredible electrical displays, Tesla would sit taking measurements. He soon found the earth to be "literally alive with electrical vibrations."
