Amazon Offers Lady Gaga 'Born This Way' Download Again, Promises No Problems

Amazon Lady Gaga Download

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 05/26/11 10:08 AM ET Updated: 07/26/11 06:12 AM ET

Amazon is selling Lady Gaga's new album, Born This Way, for just 99 cents--again.

After running the same promotion earlier this week, Amazon's servers were hit so hard that most users were unable to actually download the album. As a result, Amazon has decided to repeat the offer, but this time, it's prepared for the heavy traffic.

"Clearly customers are really excited for Lady Gaga's new album - we saw extraordinary response to Monday's promotion - far above what we expected - she definitely melted some servers," said Craig Pape, director of Music for Amazon in a press release. "So we're doing it again, and this time we're ready."

As with the earlier deal, customers who buy Lady Gaga's album will be upgraded to 20 GB of Amazon Cloud Drive storage, from the initial 5 GB Amazon ordinarily gives. On iTunes, the same album retails for $11.99, while the special edition costs $15.99.

A perfect example of how bad Ga Ga's music is when they have to basically give it away for pocket change to get somebody to buy it. An ENTIRE ALBUM for just 99 cents is a desperate attempt to get sales. The next step will be a buy one get one free deal on her next Album. And when you hear the publicity machine touting her "million selling" album, remember how little it was sold for to reach a million in sales. It in NO WAY compares with other artists whose millions were sold at FULL PRICE!

I personally will admit to blindly hating terrible music.

You realize it was amazon getting people locked into their cloud service before Apple launches theirs? Honestly its a brilliant strategy. Finally GaGa is the bomb. Your just upset you'll never be that rich.

I'm tempted to buy the album! I only really like 'Edge of glory' and 'Born This Way' not a big fan of the other songs I've heard. I'm not sure how Amazon can afford to sell this album for so cheap though.

And the devestating decline in real music continues...simply go to "you tube" type in.. ronettes.. and listen..blows gaga off the map..and its free.. real music with the capeability of actually touching your soul..if you actually have one that is.

"Real music" is completely subjective. Everyone has different tastes, and people are even allowed to like different types of music. The things that touch my soul may be different than the ones that touch your soul, but that doesn't make them any less meaningful.

Anything in 4/4 with a synthesized beat on 2 and 4...probably not going to reinvent the wheel. But hey, if hack makes you happy, listen away.

That's what I call a bargain! I bought the deluxe version on iTunes for 10.76 (complete my album offer) and I really like the album. It's a fresh sound that i am not familiar with by it'll get stuck in your head. It's like European electronic dance mixed with jazz mixed with rock, it comes out really nice.

Is there some kind of cost associated with the "Amazon cloud"? Setup expenses, maintenance, usage fees, etc.?

No, you get 20 gig of free space but after 1 year it goes back to 5 gig and there are no charge to you. If you want to keep the 20 gig then there is a yearly fee, its pretty cheap but I forget what it is. Either way I do like storing some songs there so I don't have to back them up myself, but I don't keep that much music anyways and I surely wouldn't put confidential information there but music is fine.

This will be the 4th time I've bought her album. She deserves it; even though her label is pathetic!

Haha, some girl on livejournal bought it about twelve times on Amazon.

Gaga is anything but original. "Little Richard" and later, "Alice Cooper" were two of the first "shock" rockers and were truly "ones of a kind". Gaga; not so much.

This is all about Amazon boosting the numbers for its cloud service. If you buy an album you get a free 1-year 20 gig account. They get to count me as a user, but I didn't even see it until after buying the Lady Gaga album. If you like her at all, 99 cents is a price you can't refuse!

Hell 99 cents for 1 years of 20G's of cloud storage that not a bad deal at all too bad Amazon is not selling any mp3 outside the US.
12:16 PM on 05/26/2011
0.70€ is an acceptable price for an album download.
Supposed it is quality music, which Lady Gaga isn't, but for that price I'd consider buying digital music.

I purchased the first two records (well, one record and the EP) and did not plan on purchasing this one. I only bought it because of Amazon. I want my dollar back. The four tracks I listened to on the record are awful.
09:57 PM on 05/26/2011
Bought it on first day from Amazon. Listened to the entire album. Complete garbage.

Shows what happens when music is properly priced in conjunction with the media that people are buying it in. Digital media is much cheaper yet these online stores just as much for an album as you would pay at a music store which makes no sense.

Not to mention at a lower quality than a physical CD. So you are paying the same for a digital, compressed album, that you could be paying for a physical CD you can rip at lossless quality.

I own a ton of legal, digital compressed, but a lot more FLAC. I only buy digital when there's a huge price difference or there's no physical CD release, which means that very little of my music comes from Apple or, for that matter, Amazon. (I have bought from emusic, mtraks, the old legit Limewire Store, AmieStreet, and the like because digital albums at those places typically ran no more than $5.)

Some MP3 is less flawed than others and some lossless still sounds like garbage (because the source is garbage), but, on the whole, if you have to pay full freight and have any kind of decent playback system, CDs remain the way to go. (And LP's can sound every bit as good, if not better, as well.)

It just proves how bad her music is. They have to almost give it away at 99 cents for an entire album. Amazon is basically have a Bargain Bin Blowout for Ga Ga. They had to lower the price because they know people won't pay good money for the crap she produces. So remember the price when you read news stories proclaiming how the albums sold a million copies. Most of those sales were not at full price.
10:59 AM on 05/26/2011
While I partly agree with your post, her last couple of albums were actually quite good. I am not really a fan of Born This Way, however. I don't really much care for most of the songs on it.

It is pretty awful. The LP and EP were good. Every song was listenable. Born This Way is almost at the level of parody.
10:31 PM on 05/26/2011
That's a shame. As a huge fan of her first two albums, I love the new album. Scheisse and Americano are my current jams. Maybe some of them will grow on you, but if not, well there's always the next one. :)
