Why don't they do a "Huff!ngton Post commenters pick their favorite..." List? I think commenters here have great recommendations!

A far more interesting article, science fiction authors pick their favorites. Not sure why a data dump with repeats was listed instead.

Interesting list. I've read many of them, but not all -- not even close! Looks like I've got some reading to do. ;-)

The list is a bit too heavy on British authors--Banks. Wyndham, Ballard, Orwell; Wells.....but has enough great suggestions like Lem, Zamyatin, Strugatsky and Gibson to stay relevant.

Well it is the Guardian after all, so the UK slant is hardly surprising. But I was pleased to see Joe Haldeman's "Forever War" getting so many mentions. Joe is sort of a "local favorite" in my home state of Iowa, since he went to the Writer's Workshop, and later taught at the U of I as well.

Meh. So a list created by readers counts as journalism these days? Not even any statistics, just the raw data?
