It’s almost June, the weather is gorgeous, and the week's concert calendar is packed with shows that make us grateful to live in the entertainment capital of the world. It’s all good, LA. Now get out and enjoy.
Architecture in Helsinki: This five member indie outfit, (from Melbourne, not Helsinki), is back with "Places Like This," their first album in six years. The album marks a major progression towards electro, so be prepared to dance, especially to AiN’s catchy, synth-tastic single “Contact High.”
June 1, 8pm; $22.50
The Music Box, 6126 Hollywood Boulevard, at North Gower Street, (323-464-0808 or the themusicbox.la)
Givers: Electro-pop/rock rarely maintains such indie integrity while cultivating a mood of purely unabashed joy. The five piece Givers sound like summer, (check the single “Up Up Up”) and they’re going to make you dance like no one is watching during their Thursday night show at the trés intimate Bootleg Theater.
June 2, 9pm; $10 - $12
Bootleg Theater, 2220 Beverly Boulevard, at South Lake Street, (213-389-3856 or bootlegtheater.org)
Arctic Monkey/The Vaccines: The Palladium will get raucous for a Friday night Brit-centric double bill featuring UK garage rock brats the Arctic Monkeys and the swiftly up and coming Ramones inspired UK punk/pop quartet The Vaccines. See ‘em before they start selling out much bigger venues.
June 3, 8pm; $42.50
Hollywood Palladium, 6215 Sunset Boulevard, at North El Centro Avenue, (323-962-7600 or livenation.com)
"Star Wars" in Concert: Call us cheesy, but the notion of waving a light saber, (yah, we have one), around while listening to John Williams’ masterpiece soundtrack and watching a laser light show with accompanying "Return of the Jedi" clips sounds like a good time of intergalactic proportions.
June 4, 7:30pm; $18.65- $167.55
The Hollywood Bowl, 2301 North Highland Avenue, at Odin Street, (323-850-2000 or starwarsinconcert.com)
Adele and Wanda Jackson: Old school rock meets new school blues when the original “queen of rockabilly” Wanda Jackson partners up with white hot blue eyed soul chanteuse Adele for what will surely be a goosebump inducing evening of intergenerational female star power.
June 6, 7:30pm; $44.50 - $78.70
The Greek Theatre, 2700 North Vermont Avenue, at Commonwealth Canyon Drive, (323-665-3125 or greektheatrela.com)
