iPhone 5 Release Coming Spring 2012, iPhone 4S Set For Summer 2011: RUMOR

Iphone 5 Release

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 05/31/11 12:23 PM ET Updated: 07/31/11 06:12 AM ET

A new rumor reported by Digital Trends claims that Apple's next iPhone will be a modest upgrade from the current model iPhone and "will be released in late July or early August" of 2011.

If you're holding out for a radically redesigned "iPhone 5" handset, this new report says that you'll have to wait until "spring 2012."

Citing an anonymous source who spoke to Japanese-language site Macotakara, Digital Trends writes that the next iPhone to land in the market will be called iPhone 4S and will feature a form factor similar to the iPhone 4, an ARM Cortex-A9 processor chip, an 8-megapixel camera and more.

"The report also said that Apple's new phone will be SIM-less and contain an 'additional 3-4 antennas inside,' which would allow it to be used with both GSM and CDMA networks and thereby enabling a single model to run on both AT&T and Verizon networks," notes Digital Trends.

Those hoping for a glimpse at the iPhone 4S--or even the iPhone 5--at next week's WWDC event may want to rethink their expectations. Apple's latest press release announced that the company will take the wraps off its new cloud-based music service, iCloud, and will also show off its Mac OS X Lion and iOS software.

Writes PCMag, "It's likely Apple saw the speculation around the next version of the iPhone, which has traditionally been unveiled this time of year for a summer release, and decided to get ahead of those expectations lest anticipation for 'iPhone 5' overshadow the software and services it wants to highlight."

Previous rumors from DigiTimes claimed that Apple would begin production of an "iPhone 4S" device in August and may launch it as early as September 2011.

As far as hardware goes, physical buttons have become redundant probably on the way out soon.

I don't care about iPhone 5, just as long I can get an upgrade from my 3GS that I had to revert to when I lost my iPhone 4... And 4S is coming just in time for me To be eligible for an early upgrade through AT&T. BUT... it will be interesting to know what big changes are gonna be made in the 5 version.... Can it bake, I wonder?

As much as I like the iPhone I will not be buying another one. This insane policy of tying them to one or two carriers forever has pushed me out. My iPhpne has become an iPod simply because I moved My Android may be second rate, but I can make a phone call on it, something I can't do with my iBrick.

The iPhone 5 clearly sucks. Everybody knows you're supposed to hold out for the 10. That one can blow you.

This issue will probably drag on for decades. There is so much money behind this technology. The tobacco companies were once similarly powerful, and could similarly distort the scientific discussion?

Why do people always say this sort of thing? You do realize that these devices are better understood as pocket-sized computers, right? It just so happens they are also capable of and marketed as telecommunication devices.

Something to consider when forecasting whether or not there will be an iPhone announcement at WWDC is that for all years since the advent of the iPhone but one (2008), Apple has issued a press release in May announcing the keynote without mentioning the iPhone. And every year there's a press release announcing the latest iPhone on the date of the keynote, according to Apple's Press Release Library: http://www.apple.com/pr/library/ The fact that today's press release doesn't mention the iPhone is totally in line with this pattern. And that it does mention other items so specifically (Lion, iOS 5, iCloud) seems to lend some credence to the possibility that an iPhone announcement could be the "one more thing."

They know they need to do something and fast Android has taken 53% of the U.S. mobile market and 36% of the overall. You can find the Fortune article on CNN money. Also, you can get your MacBook repair kit for the rubber bottom falling off and replacement rubber or take it to the Apple store or authorized dealer for replacement. Last but not least, apple has lost 1/3 of its app market in 2 years. This move is desperation setting in. They better not release it with that tired GUI or its doa.

You conveniently missed this... Android continues to dominate US smartphone market share (no surprise there), Well, if you don't have iphone, you don't want one should be the commercial. I laugh every time they show it or change the channel.

Oh, did you get the replacement rubber for your MacBook that is falling a part? Told you cr-apple was the right name. Sure, what smart person pays $2500 for a laptop with a rubber bottom that falls apart after two years of usage? Affecting the MacBooks between 2009 and 2011. Hey, I bought a laptop between that time period but it is not falling apart, nor is the bottom rubber. Get out of here. Geez, unbelievable what can mass marketed and sold with the right slogan.

As a user of both Android (Nexus S) and iOS (ipod touch), I am almost certain that Apple is not aiming at increasing its market share.

They have managed to monetise their existing consumers far better than any other OS contender. In that regard they are not exactly breaking a sweat over Google's phenomenal market penetration. They rake in more profits without selling more devices.

The iOS strategy revolves around purchasing apps a with approximately 2/3 of the price tag belonging to Apple. Google relies more on its personalised ads delivery platform for profit.

Without a hint of irony I'd like to see a link of that Fortune article. I skimmed through the site but could not find it; I did find a duplicate article as the above cited that also mentioned that iOS users are consuming more apps than android users.

Exactly. There is more to success than market share.

Also, comparing Android to Apple is a false comparison. Android is an operating system used by MANY manufacturers on a wide variety of phones and tablets. Google doesn't even make a phone. Every IOS user out there means another piece of hardware Apple sold.

Nevertheless, marketing genius researchthefacts is going to tell us how Apple is failing. (If having one of the most successful companies in the world can be called failing.)
