PBS Hacked Again By LulzSec In Retaliation For WikiLeaks Documentary

Pbs

PBS was hacked again by a group retaliating against the network for a "Frontline" documentary about WikiLeaks.

The group, LulzSec, has previously hacked the accounts of some Fox employees. On Sunday, the group hacked into PBS' Newshour website and posted a story claiming that Tupac Shakur was still alive and living in New Zealand.

LulzSec acknowledged that it had hacked PBS in response to a documentary about WikiLeaks and Bradley Manning, the person who allegedly leaked to WikiLeaks and whose imprisonment has become a source of international controversy. WikiLeaks had complained about the documentary, saying it was biased against the organization.

PBS has been trying to combat the hack, but LulzSec has been following its every move and continually defacing the network's pages. On Monday, the "Frontline" website was hacked at least twice--once when the show tried to issue a statement about the hacking.

Personally I thought the Frontline show about WikiLeaks was very sympathetic to the WikiLeaks side and Adrian Lamo and other anti-WikiLeaks people were not really presented as sympathetic figures, so I don't see why my fellow WikiLeaks supporters found the show objectionable. Still, the LulzSec hack about Tupac being alive is very amusing and I like what they did there.

Well it was a pretty cr*ppy documentary.
It was a great way for Martin Smith to make a name for himself, but it only hurt PBS.

Stuxnet, crashed centrifuges containing large amounts of dangerously radioactive material with unpredictable but assuredly catastrophic results.
It genesis has been attributed to the governments of the U.S. and Israel.

The PBS attack is like graffitti in a bathroom stall in comparison.

That is an excellent perspective - those posting would do well to keep that in mind.

I am not so sure this hack is being attributed to the right group. Doubt this is the real anonymous people. Gonna wait for more info and news releases. Something just is not right about this.

Kindred Spirit. Need more than that tho. Something still seems askew. Will keep at least one ear on the event and claims.

Wow, how does anyone justify trying to tell the press how to report? They must have something against a free press.

For those labeling the press, lame stream, drive by, they are trying to influence how and what the press releases in my opinion.

Wouldn't it be interesting if this was just another attack from the right on public broadcasting?

Just so I have this straight.

Hackers are complaining that PBS isn't being fair to wikileaks which is dedicated to telling the truth and for more openness about government secrets. Does anyone see what is wrong with this?

You don't like what PBS is saying so you threaten and suppress them.

Meanwhile other agencies are being much more unfair to wikileaks and Mr. Manning, but you leave them alone. Why not go after Fox, unless.....
11:14 PM on 05/31/2011
They did, read the article.
03:57 PM on 05/31/2011
I heard on the new that there is consideration of having the military go after these hackers, EVEN if they are in a foreign country.

IT'S ABOUT TIME! THESE CRIMINALS ARE ATTACKING THE USA AND ITS CITIZENS EVERY BIT AS MUCH AS IF THEY HAD DROPPED A BOMB ON US. It is a different form of attack, BUT, NO LESS, AN ATTACK!

I don't see us starting a war because the PBS website got punked. It would be foolish to even consider it.
11:15 PM on 05/31/2011
They are kids with too much free time, you are overreacting. Is this really on the scale of international crisis... because some website had some bogus story on it?
03:39 PM on 05/31/2011
Frontline fails to mention that the grand jury that investigated the Bradley Manning leaks found no collusion between Manning and Wikileaks. It was basically 30 minutes of PBS talking about Bradley's "troubled past" which fueled his need to vent his frustration.

When you are so blatantly biased, expect the unexpected PBS.

Hmmmm....they hacked PBS...and the first thing that comes to mind is saying that Tupac is alive???
05:08 PM on 05/31/2011
No kidding. They should have posted an investigative article about how shoddy the Frontline show was.

I thought the wikileaks show was pretty sympathetic, as am I, to WikiLeaks and Manning.

I am sympathetic to any American who are not fully subjected to our judicial system. Mannings case should be. Personally, I would like to hear his side, as is provided in our current system of Justice. Happily found myself in a position to explain my actions once.

Hackers usually make me mad because of pointless destruction (Playstation Network) but this one is so good. I knew Tupac was still alive.

WikiLeaks supports act like terrorists -- like that's a surprise!

One question ... if Bradley Manning had released documents about the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden, effectively canceling the raid, would you still support him?
04:04 PM on 05/31/2011
Are you seriously saying that posting a prank article is terrorism?!?!

Don't be so hyperbolic, this is a prank on the level of kids defacing a billboard. Get over it.
