Cornell Makes Case For More Suicide Prevention Nets

Posted: Updated:

Cornell University has submitted a proposal to install 6 new suicide prevention nets below the school's bridges. The school has also made plans to construct one vertical net. The nets, made of steel mesh, were chosen over other methods so as to preserve the aesthetic character of the landscape.

These nets replace the fences the university installed last year.

Cornell has had a history of gorge related suicides. In 2010, 6 students committed suicide, three within one moth. Since then, the university has spent over $575,000 on suicide prevention.
