National Donut Day 2011: Dunkin' Donuts, Krispy Kreme Giving Away Free Donuts June 3 (LOCATIONS)

Free Dunkin Donuts

The nation's largest donut (or doughnut) chains are doing their part for National Donut Day.

Giving away FREE DONUTS.

Both Dunkin' Donuts and Krispy Kreme will be giving away free donuts tomorrow in order to celebrate the 'holiday,' in an almost too good to be true fashion. Both chains have taken to Facebook to promote the event, Krispy Kreme listing it on their main page, while Dunkin' Donuts has created an entire event page for the day.

While Krispy Kreme is giving away one donut per customer regardless of purchase, the Dunkin' Donuts baked good is only free with the purchase of a beverage. Either way, it's not a bad deal.

But National Donut Day actually extends way beyond these donut promotions.

This holiday actually traces its roots all the way back to 1938, when the Salvation Army declared the first Friday of every June to be National Donut Day, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. It was originally intended to help the needy during the Great Depression.

Whatever the reason, June 3 is a great excuse to simply sit back and enjoy a glazed or jelly-filled pastry that won't take away from your wallet.

OK, this might be the forum to state that "I" have what I believe is the oldest doughnut in the world. On 1/29/12, it will be 123 years old! It was made by my great, great grandmother who died after giving birth to her 12th child. For what ever reason, her children kept a few, and now I have the only remaining one left. Not sure what to do w/ it. Suggestions?

Close - Houston.

Closest KK or DD is 5 miles. Doesn't sound that far, but my car window motors all quit
