Andrew Breitbart Takes Over Anthony Weiner's Press Conference (VIDEO)

NEW YORK -- On Monday afternoon, in the Sheraton Hotel's New York West ballroom, it felt, at times, like there were two press conferences happening at once. One featured the spectacle of a teary-eyed and emotionally wrenched Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) apologizing for his online indiscretions. The other showcased a combative Andrew Breitbart doing his best to hijack the moment.

The conservative media provocateur spoke before, after and during Rep. Weiner's admission of sending sexually charged emails to six different women.

It was supposed to be Weiner's press conference -- so why was Breitbart on the stage? He had decided to attend, he told the scores of assembled press corps members, partly because his hotel was "coincidentally" located three blocks away.

But, Breitbart also noted, "I'm here to watch myself be vindicated." He attempted to turn Weiner's press conference into a battle in his ongoing war against the so-called mainstream media, criticizing outlets that included Salon and The Daily Kos.

No one from Weiner's office pre-screened the press at the sometimes-chaotic news conference, which was held with about an hour's advance notice. At one point, before Weiner had taken the stage, someone from the crowd -- it was difficult to tell if they were a member of the media or just an onlooker -- asked Breitbart to break from a press huddle he was holding on the side of the ballroom and walk up to the podium at the front of the room set aside for Weiner.

"If he's paying for this I find this to be a tad rude," Breitbart said, and then went ahead, at 3:58 p.m.

Weiner had scheduled his conference to start at 4 p.m. When people tuned in, though, they saw not the Congressman, but Breitbart, who took questions for approximately 13 minutes before leaving the podium. Fox News reported that Weiner's aides ran down the hall to inform him that Breitbart was there.

Breitbart defended Big Government's reporting on Weiner, as well as on past stories, saying his website "didn't get into conjecture."

He expressed particular ire toward the online magazine Salon, and claimed that Weiner was "complicit" in a media campaign blaming Breitbart for the whole debacle -- and thus owed the media entrepreneur an apology.

"Given the fact that Congressman Weiner made much of last week about trying to blame me, and much of the left-wing media tried to make last week about blaming me, including claiming that I outed the name of the girl in Seattle that he sent the tweet to, which is false, and also claiming that I was the hacker, I felt that I needed to set the record straight," he told Fox News in a phone interview.

Aside from personal vindication, Breitbart said on the stage, "I'm doing this to save his family, okay? And if this guy wants to start fighting with me again, I have this photo."

Breitbart was referring to an X-rated photo of Weiner that he purportedly has in his possession yet refrained from publishing Monday. Someone from the gaggle asked Breitbart if he was extorting the congressman, and he denied that he was.

After a few more minutes, Breitbart left the podium. He filtered into and out of the ballroom, taking calls and talking to a number of media outlets.

Once Weiner had taken the stage, he was soon asked whether he owed Breitbart an apology. "I'm right here," Breitbart said, and shortly thereafter, Weiner did apologize.

By then, Breitbart had walked to the back of the room for more interviews. He was still standing there, speaking with "Inside Edition," as Weiner choked up again, toward the end of his press conference, over the pain he had caused his wife and family.

Dear Freedom Lives,
First off, my name is Diana not Diane, and do you speak like you write? If so change your name to Tarzan or perhaps Caveman. I bet Caveman would fit you well, cause I'll bet your thoughts and ideas belong in the stone age.

David Vitter is a fluke. He may have won reelection this time but he's not welcome in the Republican party. Nobody wants to go campaigning with him. He;s never going to be asked to give an important speech. Not many Republicans want to even be photographed standing next to him. Republicans don't put up with this behavior. If he were to show up at a Tea Party event he would be heckled and booed. Don't mistake my point. REPUBLICANS ARE EVERY BIT AS SCUZZY AS DEMOCRATS. They go wrong just as often. The difference is that the Republicans don't survive their scandals nearly as often. The Tea Party is a reaction against the corruption inside the Republican Party. It's not about Obama or the Democrats at all.

Is it legal for Mr. Breitbart to threaten Mr. Weiner with exposure of more pictures? Maybe someone should really investigate Mr. Breitbart's pitiful scupples, perhaps they need scrutinizing?

Oops, sorry, correction should read 'pitiful scruples' and about the 'scupples' link, though I sincerely thought the link appropriate considering our current Republican presidential wannabes.

Both of these guys are morally bankrupt. That being said, in this day and age how did Weiner think he was going to weasel out of this one?

Andrew Breitbart is nothing but a vile blackmailer ("I have a photo and I'll release unless you......").

And now "legitimate" media outlets have elevated him to the level of respectability.

The fact that THIS TIME he found and exploited an actual failing rather than manufactured a hooker/pimp scenario or reverse racism scandal doesn't make him a newmaker instead of a blackmailer.

Shame on the news media. Shame on our fascination with these sordid little details of people's private lives.

And I wouldn't doubt one little bit that some Republican operative whispered in Breitbart's ear that NOW would be a really good time to release this blackmail - in order to stop all that Kill Medicare talk that was becoming so uncomfortable for their party.

Move along folks... now about destroying medicaid/medicare/SS/rising gas prices and those Koch Bro. trolls, etc...

Something sort of bizarre and pathetic about Andrew Brietbart, up at the podium, lecturing, pouting and demanding "an apology". It sort of reminded me of Robert Duvall's character in "Godfather II" also demanding "an apology", or, when an 11 year old pouts and vehemently demands someone admit they were "wrong".

Breitbart specializes in character assassination of people and organizations he dislikes. The fact that he was apparently "right" about a photo of genitals doesn't "legitimize" his viciousness, his mendacity and his use of race bating as an incitement to his obsessed followers.

Breitbart isn't dumb. He understands the power of the dog whistle. He knows that he and his fellow conservatives are always trying to "prove" things such as black females who are employed by the government are "really against white people" and "lazy". Thus his repulsive and completely fraudulent attack on Shirley Sherrod.

Breitbart also knows how much conservatives hated ACORN. Why? Because their leadership was mainly black and they worked primarily with inner-city blacks, helping them do "unspeakable" things like register to vote, find a decent job and a place to live. Thus, his working hand-in-hand with the overgrown frat boy, James O'Keefe, to promote a completely false and illegally recorded tape that essentially demonstrated nothing but Breitbart's and O'Keefe's not-so-well-hidden racism.

"Legitimacy" for the race-baiting Andrew Breitbart simply because Anthony Weiner admitted to some strange and completely personal sexual habits that most of us dislike?

I don't buy it.

No one cares about what you have to say, Breitbart. This is an embarrassing display comparable to Kenye West's infamous disruption at the 2009 VMAs. Perhaps if you hadn't pissed away any an all credibility by attempting to ruin the career of a women by releasing a deceptively edited video and lying about it out of what I can only assume is malice on you part, or perhaps some desperate, pathetic need for self aggrandizement, people might have trusted your story about this. There is a clear difference between Anthony Weiner lying about something personal an embarrassing, and you lying to destroy a women's career because she is on a different side of the political spectrum and you want her to suffer for it. You are not vindicated. You still have no credibility after your multiple dishonest stunts you pulled with Sherry Sherod, Planned Parenthood and NPR. If you were in the academic community and you pulled this stunt, they'd have cut your balls off and rightfully so.

Why anybody would want to enter into politics now a days is beyond me. You have my dems who are too busy playing defense to get any meaningful legislationpassed and the repubs who were too busy from Nov 9 2008 doing everything they can too make Barack Obama a one term president that they have lost all credibilty on anything. They condone by inaction people casting cultural, religion and birther aspersions on this president and have shown little respect for the office while the world watches. No matter who is elected president the opposition party is going to make it hard for them. The parties actually have grown to hate each other which makes them both ineffective. When someone like Sarah Palin can muster any support when the folks on both sides know that she is a few fries short of a happy meal on any real substantive issue it is just plain sad. Whether his support be weak of strong President Obama has shown that he is really the only grown up in the room. He has compromised t the pint the the left is upset with and the right still hates him now matter what he does. That along with the fact the about 5-8% of folks in the counrty is as bigoted and racist as ever is sad.
