Austan Goolsbee, Top Obama Economic Adviser, To Resign

Austan Goolsbee

06/ 6/11 09:51 PM ET   AP

WASHINGTON — Austan Goolsbee, a longtime adviser to President Barack Obama, will resign his post as the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers this summer to return to teaching at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, the White House announced Monday.

Obama called him "one of America's great economic thinkers."

Goolsbee has been the face of the White House on economic news, and is a regular every first Friday of the month explaining the administration's take on the latest jobless numbers.

He brought a mix of levity and a teacher's sensibility to the job, using the White House blog, Facebook or YouTube to illustrate tax cuts, trade, or the auto industry resurgence on a dry-erase board with a dry wit and a gravel voice. He has been at Obama's side for years. He advised Obama during his 2004 Senate race and was senior economic policy adviser during the 2008 presidential campaign and has served on the three-member economic council since the start of the administration.

"Since I first ran for the U.S. Senate, Austan has been a close friend and one of my most trusted advisers," Obama said. "Over the past several years, he has helped steer our country out of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and although there is still much work ahead, his insights and counsel have helped lead us toward an economy that is growing and creating millions of jobs."

Goolsbee took over last September as council chairman, replacing Christina Romer, who left to return to a teaching position at the University of California, Berkley.

He had taught at the University of Chicago for 14 years. His university biography once described him as "insanely committed to his work," noting that Goolsbee was seen in the classroom, wearing a tuxedo, on the day of his wedding.

One things for certain, they wont be callin Obama "muslim" anymore, not after he nailed Bin Laden for Bush, They wont say he doesnt have the experince to be president either I bet you that, nosiree bob! Did you see Gates on "60 minutes" this last week, giving Obama credit for the gutsiest presidential calls he had ever seen in his very life- this coming from a man who had served every republican president since Regan, served them at the very highest levels. I bet if the mission had failed, some of these sour grapes-eating conservatives out there would be giving him credit for that alright. If you want to be like that, and we all know you do, then if you have honor at all you need to give him credit for the success as well, we all know that!

This guy was asked to leave, everybody who has a BRAIN knows it, Thats Obamas M O. He gives someone a certain amount of time, if it doesnt workout, or if he finds someone better, he asks them to "resign" so it wont make them look bad. Un like Bush, who would have BLAMED them for every mistake he himself had made during their tenure. Whatever

I mean, wishful thinking on your part aint gonna help you, and it wont change the truth. The truth is that Obama is a winner, thats a fact. You cant be the very first minorty president that we ever had- with an Arab-sounding name no less- unless you are a winner, This guy constantly wins in places where others constantly LOSE, ask Bush- ask Bin Laden! No one before him, not Clinton, not nobody-could get any health-care bill signed; regardless of how hard you pansies wanted to cry about it. Now you are not even gratefull he killed Bin Laden, you try to take credit away. We all know if that mission backfired, you would be giving him 100% credit. BUT HIS PLANS DONT BACKFIRE---BECAUSE HE IS A WINNER! You would think you would like your country being run by a winner for a change, but not you, nosir

It would figure that a socialist liberal would consider a fraud and liar a "winner" as you put it. Regardless of the mounting social standards of evidence surrounding you that proves otherwise!
I am afraid your delusional at best.

JUMP SHIP...JUMP SHIP...WE are sinking quickly. We are going to go down and I don't want to go down with the ship...let me out of here. Captain Obama: YOU STAY with the ship until it sinks...that's the rules of the sea.

They used to say "those who can't do the job teach". Not to say all teachers are bad but there are a few with no clue. It seems like Obama found them all.

Biden is one of the few that will follow him blissfully, so no
12:21 PM on 06/07/2011
If Obama decides he can't win in 2012 he could lash out against the Gop and really torture us. He could just resign and leave us with Biden for the remaining term. Talk about a doomsday scenario.

Yeah but things would be better with Biden, in the oval office you could tell him to "go stand in the corner" and he would be occupied for the remainder of the term trying to find a corner.

Having wrought as much destruction on the remnants of the capitalist economy as humanly possible, Austan Goolsby sails slowly into the sunset, bouyed by the knowledge that the contacts he's made in Washington have put him on the gravy train for life. Toting his much thumbed copy of "Das Kapital" and an eFile of White House memos for future use, the gallant professor of Keynesianism embarks of his new journey, to mislead as many students as possible into the error that people will gladly work their tails off to support other people chosen at random by the government. Farewell Austan. We'll never see your like again (with any luck!!!!)

Another one bites the dust! The ship is sinking and the rats are leaving. So, how many does this make now?
11:15 AM on 06/07/2011
This makes all of them, everyone who helped advise 0bama on establishing this wonderful sinking economy has quit, and we all know why.
