Man Severely Beat 7-Year-Old Girl Who Refused To Give Up Her Bicycle, Say Police

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Police say a 7-year-old girl who refused to give up her bicycle was severely beaten by an Anchorage man who had tried to steal it.

Police have issued a warrant charging 32-year-old Byron Edward Syvinski with assault and robbery. The girl is in critical but stable condition Monday.

Witnesses say Syvinski tried to force the girl off the bike Sunday and punched her when she refused. They say he then knocked her to the ground and punched her repeatedly after she lost consciousness.

Police say he will be arrested after he is released from a hospital, where he had been taken for medical clearance.

The attack was first reported by the Anchorage Daily News.

Perhaps everyone should be genetically tested in vitro for genes responcible for psychotic traits..... and aborted so that these kinds of things don't happen. Of course, not all metally ill persons are violent, but they are a burden upon society and it is better that they are never born.

Ok, HOW did this guy get to "punch her repeatedly" if there were witnesses? Were they ALL 7 year old girls witnessing? Unreal, come on, Alaska, I thought you guys were tough, salt of the Earth types, how did this go on until she was that hurt? I can only hope, as some have said, that "justice" was meted out at the hands of the local police force, and THAT is why HE'S in the hospital. Reading this actually made me sick to my stomach...

WTF, Beat up a 7 yo, People What is happening to our values, This 30 yo guy was probebly coddled by his "HIP" Parents because they didn't believe in disapline!!!!! This is what happens when you let disipline slip through your fingers. What did he hurt his hands? If I had been there he would have gone to the hospital for another reason! I am not a violent person but when I see something like this where a child is hurt, I get very angry. I can not imagine that no one stepped in to help this child, I just can't.

Lisaman, it's possible, and I'm just speculating at this point, that the witnesses were also young children, and thats why they were only able to report what they saw, and not "jump in". I'm SERIOUSLY hoping that's why, although not a great thing for other kids to see, but that's the only scenario that I can accept, if there were actual grown men and women there then I'm at a complete loss...
