A workman clearing brush along a Texas interstate made a startling discovery Friday, when he found a human skull discarded near the roadside.
The find was made on the Northwest side of Interstate 10 in San Antonio, Bexar County Medical Examiners Office spokesman Tino Ruyc told The Huffington Post.
"A gentleman that had been contracted to clear that area came across it," Ruyc said.
The skull was in a black backpack. No other bones were found in the bag, which had been discarded in an area of high-end homes.
Determining the sex or age of the skull, as well as a potential cause of death, will be a lengthy process, according to the medical examiner's office.
"They have to do DNA and will need to complete the investigation on it," Ruyc said. "It will be a long while."
