iOS 5 vs. iOS 4: What's New With Apple's Latest Mobile Software? (INFOGRAPHIC)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 06/06/11 07:31 PM ET   Updated: 08/06/11 06:12 AM ET

Alongside details about the new iCloud system and OS X Lion features, Steve Jobs and company unveiled the new iOS 5 mobile operating system today at its Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, California.

iOS 5 sports many flashy upgrades from the previous iOS 4 release, which Apple unveiled in June 2010. The Apple team highlighted 10 of iOS's biggest new features, including Twitter integration and over-the-air upgrades.

Check out the infographic (below), detailing key upgrades, to see what's different between last year's iOS 4 and the new iOS 5, which will be available sometime in the fall of 2011. Then, view our WWDC 2011 keynote wrap-up slideshow for a fast look at Apple's biggest announcements on Monday.

As an Apple iOS developer, I'm finding this comparison chart to be very useful and informative! :)

Had a Motorola Droid X...was a piece of SHI* right out of the box, got to where it would lock up 5 or more times a day and the only thing that would "fix" it is to take the battery out...bought the iphone 4, not ONE problem in 6 months...

Wow, your the first person I've seen to have a problem with a Droid. But since you like Apple, keep drinking the cool aid, follower.
04:37 PM on 06/08/2011
No kool aid - I do the battery restart on the Droid X too but not that often. out once a week I'd say. I do also have an iPhone; no problems with that.

:) I'll do it buddy...Good look with that Droid...maybe Motorola will "upgrade" it to something that is better designed...like 2 tin cans & some string...

I see some good ideas. Too bad that as soon as someone in the open source community tries to add them to Android Apple will send out a cease and desist letter. Funny how Apple is happy to take open source when it suites their needs.

I'm not Nostradamus, so I wouldn't know about the future. But I do know today a staggering 70% of phones get returned by Android users because of bad software they downloaded onto them. So says the CEO of Motorola. Last week. Ouch!
04:11 PM on 06/07/2011
Got any data to support that statement? Because I know for a fact comscore had shown Android phones stomping on Apples face to take the lead in Smart Phones.

That's the great thing about Blackberry- it's always rock-solid, and the messaging is reliable and gives me access to everything in my mailbox. Unlike the iPhone.

Its fun reading articles like this for Android...

Then you get the disclaimer "Maybe, possibly coming one day in the distant future depending on the model phone you have... Maybe"

Really? Which articles are you reading? The ones where like all open source projects you have an idea on what is being developed, or what is in the plans for development, and get to comment on the usefulness and priority of these options before they are sprung on you?

I should talk to my utilities companies and tell them that there is no need to show me the services I am using and charge me based on their usage, and instead just make up charges based on what they alone figure is best for me ... then I could call myself a real fanboi.

I prefer the platform where I actually GET updates instead of read about them online but can't get them because my brand new phone doesn't have the update available yet.

But its OK because I would get it eventually, usually by the time the next update is released... Must be nice to always be 6+ months behind the current OS

Does your device have Gingerbread yet?

That is a dealbreaker for me as far as Android is concerned. The Evo 4G just got Gingerbread like last week or so and the OS has been released by Google since December.

Plus you never know if your phone will ever actually get the updates at all. If its not a huge selling phone then the manufacturer might not waste the time on it...

Not if you are a business, then it becomes invaluable. You can literally keep your name out over the internet "airwaves" every 10 seconds. Apple is definitely appealing to the right customer base. No wonder they are making millions, you guys are the gift that keeps giving.

I agree, perhaps IOS ver 5.1 will have FB integration.

By the time the get the iPhone5 hardware out they will have removed the option to sync with your computer and you can bet that shortly after that there will start being 'subscription fees' to use iCloud.

There are already subscription fees, at least for 3G data plans when you exceed limits, but they're billed through AT&T rather than Apple.

The wireless data providers are another part of this Cloud revenue project. Do you think it is a coincidence that unlimited data plans began to disappear from the major providers just a few months before the big push for cloud started?
