Groupon In The Grocery Store: Daily Deals Come To Big Y In MA

Groupon Gets To The Grocery Store

Groupon's getting into the aisles of local supermarkets

The company has launched a pilot program with Big Y Foods in Massachusetts to integrate Groupons with the grocery store's loyalty cards, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The product will launch Tuesday in Springfield, Massachusetts, with the possibility of expanding to other stores, should the test go well.

Groupon will open the program by offering customers to the store 40 percent off the Shellfish Grill Pack, which usually retails for $39.99. The discounts will be credited to their Big Y Express Saving Club cards once they redeem their card numbers on Groupon's site.

Groupon is currently preparing for its initial public offering, as critics question whether the company's true value is anywhere close to matching the $25 billion valuation it currently holds. Among other things, many wonder whether Groupon can hold onto its existing subscriber base and continue to extend its reach while retaining the kind of engagement that catapulted the site to success.

Groupon also recently partnered with concert promoter Live Nation for an online ticketing deals site.

What do you think of Groupon's Massachusetts grocery store deal? Would you like to see this offering in your state? Leave feedback in the comments.
