Kashi has recalled 11,000 cases of frozen thin crust pizza, distributed to grocery stores nationwide, that may have plastic fragments in the crust.

Sadly, this is not the first time plastic has found its way into food. In March, over 10,000 pounds of Lean Cuisine spaghetti and meatballs were recalled. Last year, 72,000 pounds of Bumble Bee Lunch on the Run canned chicken salad, 100,000 pounds of Wal-Mart frozen chicken nuggets and 110,000 pounds of Marketside barbecue chicken pizza were all recalled due to plastic contamination.

The affected pizzas are listed below:

  • Kashi Mediterranean Thin Crust Pizza packaged in a 12.7 ounce box and marked with UPC Code 1862732905 3 and Best If Used Before date of either May10 12NU, May18 12NU, or May19 12NU;

  • Kashi Roasted Vegetable Thin Crust Pizza packaged in a 12.2 ounce box and marked with UPC Code 1862737342 1 and Best If Used Before date of either May09 12NU or May14 12NU;

  • Kashi Mushroom Trio and Spinach Thin Crust Pizza packaged in an 11.9 ounce box and marked with UPC Code 1862737344 5 and Best If Used Before date of May17 12NU

where are they using plastic in manufacturing that it would break up and get into pizza?
