'Race To The Top Commencement Challenge Special' To Air On 7 Viacom Cable Channels

Cable viewers across the country will soon get an inside look at the journey of South Memphis students vying to win a coveted commencement address from President Obama.

Booker T. Washington High School was the winner of a White House competition, known as the Race to the Top Commencement Challenge, which drew hundreds of applicants.

At the May 16 graduation ceremony, Obama told students, "You inspire me, that's why I'm here."

Located in a poor community characterized by low academic acheivement, the school was noted for its dramatic turnaround -- increasing students' test scores and graduation rates.

Viacom and Get Schooled teamed with the White House to bring an in-depth look at Booker T. Washington High School's achievement to national airwaves. The 30-minute special will build upon the short video the school made (below) as part of their application for the commencement challenge.

The special will air on MTV, BET, Comedy Central and four other Viacom networks over the next two weeks. A list of dates and times it will be shown can be found on the Get Schooled website.
