Arizona Wildfire 2011 PHOTOS

A massive wildfire in Arizona continues to rage on, having claimed more than 30 homes and prompted nearly 10,000 people to evacuate.

The fire is predicted to move into New Mexico soon, where it endangers power lines that if damaged could potentially cause blackouts in New Mexico and Texas.

Officials say the fire has burned 639 square miles of forest at this point -- an area larger than the state's capital, Phoenix -- making it the second largest wildfire in Arizona's history.

View harrowing images of the massive disaster below, which we'll continue to update as the fire continues on its path of destruction.

Oh my gawd. You poor people. I will keep you in my thoughts and will make a donation to the Red Cross to help you a little. May the winds blow in a direction away from your homes and lives. I have lost my home to fire and know how awful it is. Be strong. We think of you hourly.

Having been in the line of work putting these kinds of fires out for 25+ years with USFS & CAL FIRE, while I am in favor of common sense that you can't dump billions of metric tons of fossil fuel related compounds & expect there to be an exception to the law of physics of cause & effect.

That said I have experienced many many terrible fire seasons that started off with a bang like 1970, 1993, 2003 & more recently in northern CA where there were thousands of fires burning out of control in 2009 like the Panther Complex fires in Siskiyou Humboldt Counties.

So what we look at is the fire history table for a particular area & region because these kinds of fire seasons go in cycles based not just on weather but topography where the start occurred, local conditions or what we call micro-climates, & fuel loads for a given area.

So before I jump in with an informed judgement I am gonna go look at that info & a great place to look at all this stuff is NIFC.(National Inter-agency Fire Center). This is the primary resource command center for finding out daily fire reports online plus statistical data & a host of other interesting info on anything wild land fire..

Oh all of a sudden I don't hear a peep out of the Republican Party about finding budget cuts to offset the disaster relief funding. Could it be that when trouble comes their way that they enjoy financial Super Market Sweep as much as not only the Democrats but us as well?

Isn't it amazing how anything can get turned into something about dems vs repubs... love how we as a nation can't pull our heads out of our collective butts long enough to actually just try to help each other. Bravo to you Mr. Horowitz, lead on.
