CNN:

The folks at Amazon and Google must have been wringing their hands on Monday when Apple CEO Steve Jobs showed off a new service called iTunes Match.

That all-important "one more thing" from Apple's software presentation is part of the iCloud Web application and storage suite. It was a coup of sorts -- and Apple's win over competitors could be attributed to Jobs' experience at Pixar Animation Studios, which he co-founded.

Only the truth and nothing more

so, one thing that I'm concerned about is that what will happen to Copyrighted music that users have downloaded from Torrent or other sources and now they upload them to iCloud? Will anybody come after them? will they have to pay for the music now? will the music companies ignore and just give them a higher quality match for pirated copy?

I've been reading in the last week or so that Jobs is a co-founder of Pixar. That is not true. He bough the company but he didn't co-founded it.

The bottom line in the convergence between content and technology is monetizing the product. Jobs has done that. Made money for Apple, and for the record companies. That's why he's winning.

Fear not if you missed out on Amazon's 20 of storage Lady Gaga's 99 cent MP3 album. You can still get a sweet deal for $1.99. Since Amazon gives the deal for any MP3 album, just do an album search. Sort from low to high. The MP3 albums start at $1.99. Voila 20 gigs of storage.

Do they have software associated with that storage that will push it automatically to my other devices, so, if I buy a song on my phone it will show up on my tablet and desktop? That would be cool, and make it more than just another hard drive in the sky (another 'device' really, that needs to be administered and looked after. )

So how are they going to keep hackers from destroying/stealing all the information just sitting there waiting for a full out hacker atttack?

Apple is making it easier for the hackers, instead of having to hack into multiple machines they can just hack into the iCloud and steal whatever they need, sort of a one stop shop for hackers.

Wouldn't matter too much with the music.
It's mostly storing a library list of songs they keep on their server, or even things you actually uploaded there. That's all a duplicate of things you would have on your PC and devices.
So really, if you went away for a day, and meanwhile, someone hacked in and erased everyone's files, if they got everything running again, the next time you started your PC and devices, the data would just repopulate.
They've had a library of music online in their store since 2003. They've had data, photos , and documents stored online in MobileMe for years as well. I save backups of my Quickbooks files there, so even if my house burned down my accounting for my business is safe. Besides, there's no reason music, calendars, documents, etc, would have to be on the same physical server.

I would never store my data online, too many risks. Too many sophisticated hackers are tying to get personal information, for identity theft.

Just back up your data to an external drive then put the drive in a fireproof safe, I have two external drives for backup and they are kept in different locations.

What a terrible article! There was no connection made between Job's experience at Pixar and iCloud's development. I learned nothing.

It doesn't take forever, just maybe until this Fall, when the iCloud system comes online.
Not sure what you're up to, but it sounds like 'something' is buggy alright.

There is another alternative to the Big 3. It seems to have a matching service like Apple's iTunes match. It is megabox and megakey. These services are from MegaUpload. With a MegaUpload member account (free) you get 200gb of storage. With a premium account your storage is unlimited. A premium account is 10 euros a month, 20 for 3 months, 60 for year, and 80 for 2 years. A premium account works with other Mega services including Megabox for your music and MegaPix for your photos. MegaUpload has been around since 2005, and there business is focused on fast uploading and downloading of files. I have used their services for some time and I can tell that they are really, really fast. Their Megamanager is super fast for uploading files to the web. You can upload music to your file storage and stream from there. You may also search for music online and listen to sample clips. If you choose to buy, you are given two choices Amazon or 7 digital.

With iTunes Match you don't have to upload your music.
They are just going to match it up to 25,000 songs!

In my second sentence I talked about Megabox's matching service. Actually it's Megakey. So let me try this again. From the description of Megakey benefits. "It identifies files on your PC and makes them available on your Megabox." What does that sound like to you. The Megabox service is in Beta but I signed up for it and I can tell you that it is fast. I am very familiar with how fast MegaUpload is, so even the files that they don't have a match for are uploaded very fast. It should also be considered that this is still in Beta. If you want a place to put pictures, Mega also has you covered. If you want a place to put videos, Mega has you covered as well. If you want to do broadcasts, Mega has you covered. Mega literally has dozens of cloud services either on line or in development. Their entire business model is concentrated on cloud computing.
