Dan Gilbert Jabs LeBron James: Cavaliers Owner Takes Shot At LeBron On Twitter

Dan Gilbert Lebron James

First Posted: 06/13/11 02:39 AM ET Updated: 08/12/11 06:12 AM ET

Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert didn't hesitate to take a shot at LeBron James after the Dallas Mavericks won their first NBA championship in franchise history on Sunday night.

"Old Lesson for all:There are NO SHORTCUTS. NONE," he posted on his Twitter account.

This isn't the first time that Gilbert has slammed his former employee.

Gilbert said that James was "narcissistic" and called his departure from Cleveland a "cowardly betrayal" in a letter to Cavs fans shortly after the two-time MVP announced his decision to join Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami.

Earlier in the season, Gilbert appeared to bash James on Twitter by ripping unnamed "A-Holes." He later denied that the tweet was directed at James.

LeBron finished with 21 points, four rebounds and six assists in Miami's Game 6 loss. James and Wade combined to score 62 total points in each fourth quarter of the NBA finals, while Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki scored 62 points in the final period by himself.

Congrats to Mark C.&entire Mavs org. Mavs NEVER stopped & now entire franchise gets rings. Old Lesson for all:There are NO SHORTCUTS. NONE.less than a minute ago via Twitter for BlackBerry® Favorite Retweet Reply

Please get over it Dan Gilbert, He fulfilled his contract with your terrible basketball team and except for a game or two last postseason, he played hard night in and night out, and the both of you are richer for it, so stop crying, stop making comments on Twitter about LeBron James and figure out how to win a championship for CLEVELAND, so you won't have to take to Twitter every year to congratulate some other owner on winning a championship....

LeBron can not handle the pressure of the big moment and he is not a leader. If the heat know this, they need to find a better way to balance out his weakness in these areas with people who can handle the pressure and who are leaders.

Dan you should be more careful because you are the one that stated that the CAV's would win a championship before Miami after Labron left. While I think Labron did the CAVs wrong you still haven't produced yet either have you? You have 2 big picks this year in the draft you better use them wisely.

Gilbert and Cuban are alike in this sense: They both think like the fans do, with passion and love of the game. Sometimes that superceded logic, decorum, etc., but the fans love them for it.

In this ultra liberal town (Cleveland), Gilbert is loved. Think on that. A banker loved in Cleveland.

That the Heat fell on their face in the Final is obvious. LeBron DID play a horrible floor game last night, even in scoring 21. He passed out of too potential scoring opportunities. Considering he was 2nd in the league in scoring this year and has led in previous years, you don't pass up opportunities in an elimination game.

That said, Dan Gilbert needs to shut the h#$&%* up! If LeBron is as bad as Gilbert is insinuating, then why was he so determined to sign him back last year? LBJ took a team of nobodies from Cleveland in 2007 to the Finals. That team didn't look much different in 2010, so he should have left.

If Gilbert thinks he's building a winner in Cleveland, try convincing any good free agent to come there, knowing there isn't much of a team to work with.

Dan Gilbert is the worst owner in sports. He lost Lebron after all but worse is his sportsmanship. He has none of it. (totally classless)

No one's worse than Donald Sterling.

BrassOnes: Obviously they are not brass and probably are jelly beans.

Still, it was not what Lebron did.... it was HOW he did it, that irked everyone.

So get off your high horse about "lack of sportsmanship". Takes one to know one eh.

That it-was-how-Lebron-did-it meme is tired and lame. People just need someone to hate. The man was a free-agent. He played out his commitment to the Cavs entirely. Prior to the end of his contract, he refused to discuss a new contract with he Cavs. HINT. When Lebron became a free-agent, he never engaged in serious contract talks with the Cavs even though they were the only organization that could offer him a max contract. HINT. He never even once declared Cleveland the front-runner to sign him. HINT. Add to all that the fact that Gilbert and Lebron were barely on speaking terms due to a bad relationship (HINT), and it spells there is no way in he!! Lebron was going to sign a 3rd contract with Gilbert. The whole issue with how Lebron did it was a complete farce from the beginning.

Yo, Dan. Your team.....it su-cks. Worry about getting out of the basement and less about a former player.

Gilbert isn't exactly a class act. I understand his frustration with James, but it's the fans in Cleveland that truly got left behind...

I would like to congratulate Dan Gilbert on the Cav's last place finish in the East.
The Heat were 2 wins away from the title, the Cav's were 2 wins away from the worst record in the whole league. Congrats Dan!!

I know you have 19 fans and that obviously makes you more sensible and learned than someone who has less but... maybe your argument would make a bit more sense if you were talking about 2012? I mean, then you could prove that the Cavs were a crappy team instead of a team that had a last minute decision that gutted them pretty drastically without time or legal chance to do something to fix it? I'm pretty sure that if I put you in a room and then told you "Okay, go out there and do a samba" if you hadn't been prepared your samba would be pretty crappy. Are you a crappy dancer? I don't know - maybe - but I can't shove you out there without any preparation with a dance partner and then use that performance to rate you. If you want to be fair, note that the Cavs also went to the playoffs with him. Twice. Just like the Heat did. Three times we've seen this same "can't do" performance from LeBron on the field. If anything, we Cavs fans should be consoling Heat fans for what precisely they're ACTUALLY going to be witnesses to.

Just the facts, please.

It's not as if LeBron's free agency was a surprise. The Cavs knew there was a chance he would walk, but had no plan B. There are other teams that wanted LeBron and didn't get him. Chicago and New York didn't go in the tank because this guy went to South Beach. The fact that the Cavs were not prepared for the season is nobody's fault but their own. Instead of blaming others for their problems whiney Cavs fans need to look at ownership, and ownership needs to look in the mirror.
