Pete Carroll Criticizes NCAA

Former USC football coach Pete Carroll criticized the NCAA in an interview with Mark Willard of 710 ESPN on Sunday, one week after the Trojans were stripped of their 2004 national championship.

The Seattle Seahawks coach said that it's "unfortunate" to see current USC players getting penalized for violations that were made when they "were in junior high."

"[The NCAA has] to do what they do. They figure out how the thing is supposed to work," Carroll said. "I don't agree with much of any of it. It's unfortunate that kids, years and years after, are punished for what the NCAA is dealing with from years and years before."

USC was hit hard by the NCAA last summer when the football program received a two-year ban from the postseason. The school also lost more than 20 scholarships and the team was forced to vacate its entire 2005 season.

Carroll, however, said that the players still know who won.

"Just watch the comments of the players. They know who won, who didn't," he said. "[Matt] Leinart and Lofa Tatupu and those guys, they all know. The whole thing is so unfortunate."
