nytimes.com:

But students can now choose from a menu of new boxes of racial and ethnic categories -- because the Department of Education started requiring universities this past school year to comply with a broad federal edict to collect more information about race and ethnicity...So the number of applicants who identify themselves as multiracial has mushroomed, adding another layer of anxiety, soul- (and family-tree-) searching and even gamesmanship to the process.

To point out how ludicrous these made up labels are I will give you a funny eaxample. I have a friend who's family immigrated here from Africa when she was eighteen. She was born in Africa and now is an African American. Only one problem "She is White"

There's no quandry about it. She would be insane not to check the box next to Black. I am a working class stiff with two kids in college. They were born with a disability. They were born WHITE. There is no help for them.

This would be a non-issue if everyone would just stick to their own race.

It should be illegal to use race in any way, shape or form for any college admissions. Affirmative action is racist and it's long term effects are insidious.

I refuse to fill in my race on anything ever. It's a damn insult to me and should be to anyone.

Race should only be used for medical reasons, i.e. to help identify and treat properly some diseases. Other than that we should not be asked what is our race.

What "Quandary"? write minority and get your schooling paid for. OMG, if you write white you will pay full price.

Or, in your case, just ignore schooling altogether...

You are beyond ignorant that it is sad. White students use financial aid just like anyone else.

Question...should race be a factor in admissions?
01:53 PM on 06/14/2011
First we had bussing in grades 1-12, with so-so results. Now this pressure is the equivalent of bussing, only at the next level. The equality folks are out to ruin the university/college system.

This is a pretty good example of how stupid "planned diversity" has become. What's more diverse than mulitracial identity? One of my grandsons is AA/WASP, another is Puerto Rican/WASP. Why should they be required to claim one or the other?

This story shows just how unfair and biased this whole race issue has become. The only determining factor on a college application should be citizenship to determine eligibility for programs and fees. Other than that the question of race should either be elective or removed completely.Race should not be a factor period.

"Race should not be a factor period."

Thank you.
