Ed Schultz: Neal Boortz, Right Wing Radio Using 'Racist And Violent Rhetoric' (VIDEO)

Ed Schultz

First Posted: 06/16/11 04:16 PM ET Updated: 08/16/11 06:12 AM ET

Ed Schultz said he is worried about right-wing rhetoric after playing a clip of a talk show host calling for the streets of Atlanta to be "littered" with "dead thugs."

Speaking on his Wednesday show, Schultz challenged conservative talk show host Neal Boortz to appear on his MSNBC show and defend controversial comments he made about Atlanta on Monday:

BOORTZ: We got too damn many urban thugs, yo, ruining the quality of life for everybody. And I'll tell you what it's gonna take. You people, you are - you need to have a gun. You need to have training. You need to know how to use that gun. You need to get a permit to carry that gun. And you do in fact need to carry that gun and we need to see some dead thugs littering the landscape in Atlanta.

"There's something very ugly and dangerous going on in this country," Schultz said. "Right wing talk show hosts seem to be amping up racist and reckless rhetoric like never before ... the level of racist and violent rhetoric on hard-right wing radio today is off the charts."

He said that, in his opinion, Boortz "just advocated murder in the streets of Atlanta," and guessed that "Neal wasn't thinking of white thugs." Schultz also called Boortz "reckless, stupid and a racist."

He then challenged Boortz to "come on this program tomorrow night, and can you bring pictures? Can you show me who these thugs are? ... You're advocating damn near civil war."

Schultz also accused Glenn Beck of promoting violence for saying earlier this week, "Why would you get a gun? To prepare for tough times, that's why," while pointing at a picture of President Obama.

For anyone who insist FOX is 'Unfair & Unbalanced' but would point to a show like this one see how its done perhaps u should find out exactly what 'Fair & Balanced' implies in the news business b/c it doesnt describe Ed's show.
I'll prove it. After Ed expresses his ridiculous opinion which consisted of false assumptions & conclusions he invites on 2 guests to talk about HIS OPINION, normally you bring on 2 guests with opposing views to argue both sides of the argument, ya know to be fair.
But this is just comical, I mean first Ed gives his ludicrous opinion & then 'alright for a fair & balanced argument lets hear from an NAACP member who agrees with me(big surprise) & another black guy who agrees with me & then some' yea thats how its done.
Listen at 8:40 from his guest
"..take up arms against vulnerable & unarmed black & latino young people.."
WHAT! VULNERABLE & UNARMED. WHAAAAAAT!
Neal mentioned carjacking thugs, some thug attempting to carjack you is VULNERABLE & UNARMED. Not just that but they are automatically black or latino, a white carjacker is inconceivable to him, yet he's not the racist one. Why are they vulnerable anyway, b/c they are black or latino? Real credit to his race this guy is.

The comment was doctored and the HP is even missing it: Boortz talked about CAR JACKERS. Both Ed and the HP deleted that section. Below is the whole real quote:

You need to get a permit to carry that gun. And you do in fact need to carry that gun and we need to see some dead thugs littering the landscape in Atlanta. We need to see the next guy that tries to carjack you shot dead right where he stands. We need more dead thugs in this city.

Fanned and faved! Everyone knows that; it was about carjackers. And
everyone one of these whiners would shoot any carjacker attempting to rob them-regardless of color. This is one stupid "issue" raised by one desperate MSNBC host.

I promise to give ten thousand dollars to the first person who can show me anything racist that Neal Boortz has ever said.

Anyone who does not feel joy when they hear about the death of a thug is pure evil.

How many carjackings have been in the news in Atlanta? A lot. I live here, I know. But I've never heard him speak out on any of them until the victim was white. Draw your own conclusions. But that makes Neal no worse that the media at large. When a carjacking victim is white, when a missing woman is white, when a kidnapped child is white it's news for at least a week.

I don't care what his motives are. He is a nasty and gratuitously rude, and prejudiced. So what?

The context of the broadcast was *carjackers* and what to do about them
He said shoot carjackers, and I agree that we should.

bear in mind, In the two most recent incidents they shot their victims-one fatally, and I am appalled at the people who wish to take the focus away from armed criminals who carjack and often shoot their victims and refocus on Neal Boortz's racial generalizations/attitudes.
I
His program subject matter depends largely on what the mainstream media publishes to give him fodder for talk.

So if the press doesn't report black on black crime, that is not his fault.
He is not a reporter or a news gatherer.

He has a ton of faults, but this selective reporting allegation/problem is not of his doing.

The selective reportage allegation is a red herring designed to take he focus off of shooting carjackers. Regrettably shooting them is the only way to stop them.
and it makes no difference what the racial statistics of carjacking might
reveal.

It's a ridiculous obfuscation. I would shoot one from my own racial background as quickly as
a white one or a black one-and who the heck wouldn't?????

Even Boortz would shoot a white carjacker if one threatened him.
Can anyone here seriously doubt that??
he were accosted by one. H th does anyone doubt that?

I can't help but wonder about some of these comments and I do have several questions.

The last crime that was committed against me was by someone white, so was the one prior to that (yes these cases ended up in court).

Does that mean I'm allowed to lay down a blanket of racial discrimination against all those who fit the same ethnic description given that 80% of all crimes perpetrated against me personally were by one specific ethnic group? (They were not by a minority group of this country - see my comment above)

By his comments, does it mean that as a licensed gun-toting (most people think that I'm liberal but I'm more of a free-thinker) that I now have the right to gun down in self-defense those people of that one specific aforementioned group if I believe they are going to do me bodily harm?

Would he feel differently if it was a different ethnic group that had perpetrated these crimes instead of "yo, urban thugs"?

Is it me or has there been an uptick in the racial rants of people since we have a black POTUS, as if they are pandering to the deep-seated, no longer dormant racial undertones of this country?
10:33 AM on 06/22/2011
He is not advocating racial discrimination. A person of any color can be a thug. He was encouraging people to defend themselves against thugs when crime is committed. The people who perpetrated crimes against you are also thugs. I have no idea how the word thug became synonymous with with African Americans. It is ironic however that many are calling Boortz racist, and yet they are the first ones to assume that by thugs he means only black people.
12:50 PM on 06/22/2011
Oh stop kidding us. When Neal Boortz talks about "urban thugs" he mean blacks. And if you lived here in Atlanta where Neal is city institution all to himself, you'd also realize he only gets excited about people protecting themselves when the victim is white. If this were a black on black car jacking Neal would say nothing.
I get so sick and tired of this game where racists talk in code words and think just because they don't literally use the word "black" they've got wiggle room to deny it.
01:58 PM on 06/22/2011
I live in Sandy Springs, just a few miles outside of the Atlanta city limits. Neil talks badly about white politicians all of the time, he talks bad about rednecks, and he talks bad about urban thugs. And you know why he talks bad about them? Because they deserve it for their behavior. Even if urban thugs were only black, it would not mean that all blacks are urban thugs. I am white and I can't stand rednecks. Does that make me racist or just really confused? Do you support the mentality and behavior of urban thugs? And before you get up in arms about Neal Boortz supposedly only getting excited about protecting white victims, when is the last time the NAACP got excited about protecting anyone other than black victims?
03:43 PM on 06/22/2011
Actually, Boortz never mentioned race one time. Ed Schultz is the racist. Knowing Atlanta as I do, he was not referring to any one race. I almost bought a gun a couple of times when living in Atlanta but finally escaped because I didn't want to raise my children there.
01:16 PM on 06/21/2011
Neal doesn't live in Atlanta. He moved to Naples, Fl so he wouldn't have to pay state tax, just like Rush. Neal is getting meaner and nastier every week, probably has to do with a competing time slot with the Beckster. Gotta keep those ratings up or he won't get the million dollar motor home promised to him on retirement. Ratings are falling for all the shock talk show hosts - about time people woke up.
11:23 AM on 06/21/2011
Obviously, many posting here never watch their local news or they wouldn't be focusing the problem on Boortz. Ed feels safe because limousines don't get carjacked.

Its not about Boortz; its about carjackers, and the need to shoot them
before they shoot you-the real victim. One recent victim in Atlanta died form gsw from a car jacker, and another is in the hospital with a gun shot wound to the back...yet these car jacker apologists keep on ignoring the crimes and focusing on Boortz' nasty personality.

why is it that the left assumes that gunowners that will not submit to being disarmed / controlled / mandated / accept the destruction of our country / disrespect of our Consititution / refuse to believe obama cares about this country / think that abortion is murder / believe in our forefathers desire to leave our children a better life than obama wants to / believe that one should not spend more money than one can afford / desire to control our own healthcare / believe that school is for the education for our kids that does not force them to accept ideals that the parents don't agree with / think that we should be allowed to decide just what and how much we eat / believe that working for a living is better than a government handout / believe this country is the best place in the world to live in / borders should be controlled / that illegals should be forced to enter this country like anyone /
Why are these beliefs tossed around as and labeled bad ? Why do the liberals assume that these desires/ beliefs mean we are murderous/ out of control street rioting radicals -/ Show me any evidence that we have exploded out unto the streets / the last I saw of this type of behaviors was the unions - the left / illegals rioting / students chaining themselves to the chairs in a school board meeting / this government wanting to take

Hilarious that people are defending Neal. No one took his comments out of context. In fact, today he doubled down on his comments and talked about how violent things are wherever black people go

Which is actually amusing in and of itself. Humans have done horrible things in general throughout history, but if I used Neal's logic, then white people can be dismissed as imperialists and oppressors. That wouldn't be fair now would it
11:04 AM on 06/21/2011
However, the thing that's not hilarious or amusing is being killed or seriouly injured by a violent, sadistic carjacker. That's the takeaway point here.
03:25 AM on 06/23/2011
You're right...that isn't funny at all. Know what else isn't funny? Implying that blacks and hispanics are responsible and speaking about black neighborhoods in a manner that stereotypes everyone. Following his logic...any black man roaming the streets at night are in danger of being killed. Innocent or not
10:17 PM on 06/20/2011
HE IS INCITING VIOLENCE. WHY ISN'T HE IN JAIL. IF ANY BLACK PERSON HAD SAID TO KILL WHITE PEOPLE THEN THAT BLACK PERSON WOULD BE IN JAIL IN LESS TIME THAN 2 HOURS AND DOING TIME IN PRISON IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AFTER. STOP BUYING THE
PRODUCTS OF THE SPONSORS AND SEND THEM A MESSAGE THAT THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED EVER

Schultz didn't 'edit' it, he just played the end of the rant and in no way did Boortz redeem himself. He is actively calling for shooting black men and he shouldn't be employed by Cox .. Period.
01:12 AM on 06/21/2011
Listened to the full audio. He's definitely inciting violence.

Why did the mods take this story off the front page of the MEDIA tab when it was exposed that Schultz used an edited clip of Boortz's comment to exclude the "car jacking" topic which preempted the subject matter?

Didn't think I'd catch that would ya Mods?

Imagine if what Boortz has said was said by a black radio host.
01:14 AM on 06/21/2011
Far worse is said by prominent black figures in their various outlets. People who assume he was talking about black people only do so because when they hear "urban thug" they immediately think of a black person. Now whose fault is that?
