Famous Death Row Last Meals

Regardless of your beliefs when it comes to the death penalty, one thing we've become accustomed to hearing and talking about is the famous last meal.

On Thursday, 41-year-old Eddie Duval Powell was executed by lethal injection in Alabama for the rape and murder of a 70-year-old woman in 1995, reports Reuters.

His meal of nothing more than some sandwiches, corn chips and soda from the vending machine has The Daily Mail asking if it's the saddest last meal ever?

While it is not unheard of for an inmate not to make a special request, It's a far cry from the elaborate meals of fried chicken, lobster, and desserts we are used to reading about.

Take a look at some of strangest, smallest and largest last meal requests:

Robert Dale Conklin

Robert Dale Conklin was executed July 12, 2005 in Georgia for the murder of his ex-boyfriend. For his last meal he requested:

Filet mingnon wrapped in bacon, de-veined shrimp sauteed in garlic butter with lemon, a baked potato with butter, sour cream, chives, and real bacon bits, corn on the cob, aspara- gus with hollandaise sauce, French bread with butter, goat cheese, cantaloupe, apple pie with vanilla bean ice cream and an iced tea.

Soooo,.......What would be appropiate as a last meal? Well, maybe 2 pounds of king crab legs with real butter, a 1/2 pound of gourmet blue cheese, a medium Irish rose baked potatoe w/ real butter and 1 nearly frozen 20 oz. bottle of Coca Cola and a stand alone small (real) glass with lots of replenishable ice and lastly three scoups of Baskin Robins butter brickle ice cream.
I think that would max out the palette. OR, What a question.

You forgot The Last Supper. Jesus too was on death row.

I'm VERY disappointed in Roy Blankenship (executed a few days ago in Georgia) for not choosing any special last meal. A true sign of a death row rookie! After all those years in jail, he should have come up with a truly memorable dream feast! A word of advice to all you death row newbies; instead of spending all your time drafting appeals, meeting with sympathetic nuns, or just staring vacantly at the walls of your cell, put a little thought into your final meal!---Ty Treadwell, author of Last Suppers: Famous Final Meals from Death Row

What makes me cry-boo hoo, is that our U.S system is ridiculous. If you are convicted to death-die! Why let these offenders suffer and given time to figure out their mistakes and find God, to realize that life is precious and limited. In which they did not give to their victims.
They want to live and now reformed without consequences to their victims demise and life! They serve too much time to think about it, on tax payers money before their legal sentence of death becomes a reality. Waiting many years on death row and hoping that their crimes will be appealed and not corperal punishment.
Boo-hoo, take responsibilty for your actions and die, and God bless you....Make sure you tell everyone how you did not commit your horrific crime and you are now saved AND want to live after killing or torturing, a person(s) who is now dead. May God's peace be with your resonsibility and accept your sentence, as you did not think of your consequence to your victim(s) or family.
God Bless Texas!

Yep. Seems like he was maybe the only one on the list who was actually sorry for what he did and was trying to go for some kind of atonement in the small way still possible to him.

picture 7 made me cry. most people only steal because they are desperate. im not saying what he did was right. but how many people who could ask for any meal in the world would choose to give that meal to a homeless person. just saying.

Why not go out with gusto. I'd bet at most that last meal would cost no more than $100.00. Pehaps a lot more in a restaurant, but why not.
