U.S. Airways Bomb Threat: Plane Held At Washington Airport Due To Bomb Threat (UPDATE)

WASHINGTON — An FBI spokesman says no explosives were found aboard a plane that landed in Washington after someone made a bomb threat at an airport ticket counter in Ohio.

Andrew Ames says the plane was given the all clear and no hazards were found. The plane landed at Reagan National Airport on Sunday afternoon. When it landed, authorities swept the plane for explosives and interviewed the 44 passengers aboard.

A flight that landed Sunday afternoon at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., is being investigated after a bomb threat, NBC Washington reports.

The flight, U.S. Airways 2596, was en route from Dayton, Ohio, this afternoon when a man at at ticket counter there made a threat against the plane.

The plane was preparing to land when the airport was told to hold the flight, said Courtney Mickalonis, a spokeswoman for Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

Upon landing, the plane was directed to a remote runway and the 44 passengers were deplaned, Mickalonis said. A K-9 team alerted to a checked bag, TSA said, and local police are investigating.

The FBI is searching the plane, and the passengers are being questioned.

The Washington Post reports that air traffic coming in and out of the airport was halted for 20 minutes this afternoon.

The man who made the threat is in custody.
