Andrew Breitbart: David Vitter Is As Bad As Anthony Weiner

David Vitter

First Posted: 06/20/11 07:18 PM ET Updated: 08/20/11 06:12 AM ET

WASHINGTON -- Andrew Breitbart says he is "not a fan" of Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) for the same reason he doesn't like ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner: Both led sleazy secret lives that could have compromised the public trust.

Speaking freely with a wine glass in hand, the conservative online publisher whose work helped bring down Weiner told a Netroots Nation activist over the weekend that the problem is that such men are vulnerable to extortion.

Weiner sent lewd photos to women over Twitter, then lied about it. Vitter admitted in 2007 he was on the client list of a D.C. madam.

"I tend to think all these guys who behave this way put themselves in a position to be blackmailed," said Breitbart in a phone video recording of his chat.

He also mentioned former Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.), ex-Gov. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) and former Rep. Mark Foley (R-Fla.) as politicians who could have been extorted.

Ensign admitted to an affair with an aide and quit amid an FBI probe into whether her husband was steered work to help cover it up. Sanford was censured after he was caught flying to South America to cheat on his wife. Foley quit after sending suggestive emails to congressional pages.

"I'm not a fan [of Vitter],†Breitbart said. "I'm not a fan of Ensign. I'm not a fan of Mark Sanford. I'm not a fan of Mark Foley. The guys who put themselves in these positions -- if they're Republicans or they're Democrats -- I don't like them."

But unlike Weiner, Ensign, Foley and Sanford, Vitter remains in his position of authority, although some conservatives are calling for him to quit in the wake of the Weiner resignation, which takes effect at midnight, June 21.

"I don't like Republicans or Democrats that behave this way with the public trust, including Vitter," Breitbart added.

NOT SO “BRIGHT BART†- NOTHING NEW

So, this Breitbart is an equal opportunity guy. Party is not a consideration? Well, that part sounds good to me. That is the way it should be.

This is very trivial. Yes, it has turned into a hissy fit of "He lied to us" but how many others have lied about things of very great importance to voters.I didn't see Pelosi getting all concerned about the lies told to voters.
People just don't seem to have good sense anymore. You have to use judgment. What matters most?

Agreed...when you are elected by the people...you are held to a higher standard...so unless you can control yourself, do not run for office...power makes men do nutty and sick things...that is for sure...

Nah, power isn't necessary for a lot of us men. Some of us do the nutty, sick is an individual interpretation, lol, things just being regular citizens. But then again, I won't run for public office. It's bad enough that some of my transgressions are already known I don't want to have people on here broadcasting them or taking out ads in the local paper. lol We are all fallible and as we age hopefully we learn and mature.

I do agree that those who are elected to public office should be held to a standard of conduct. They should also be held accountable for how well they respresent their district/state and also how they consider the welfare of our country.

Why is Vitter still in office?
04:26 PM on 06/21/2011
Happily, Vitter didn't post pix of his activities to the entire planet. And visiting prostitutes 7 years ago isn't scandal-quality, just skeletons in the closet that were dragged out to gain political advantage. He was re-elected so his constituency made an informed choice. Mrs Vitter literally saved Vitter's career along with her marriage. Hope she does not live to regret that. There's no Worse comparing Weiner and Vitter...just 2 sleazy pols in different venues.

Breitbart claims: "I tend to think all these guys who behave this way put themselves in a position to be blackmailed," said Breitbart in a phone video recording of his chat. He also mentioned former Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.), ex-Gov. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) and former Rep. Mark Foley (R-Fla.) as politicians who could have been extorted.

But Breitbart didn't work 24/7 to bring these men down. That's the difference. Breitbart isn't an equal opportunity muckraker. He's an ideological muckraker. He digs for dirt only on his side of the ideological divide. BFD. No credibility whatsoever. Breitbart is nothing more than a snarling media jackal who ought not take any credit for public enlightnment or social progress.

How many leftie's supported Weiner or how many networks chose not to report the story, hoping it would go away. This is just the way it is darling.

Hahahahaha-

Weiner was one of the strongest voices on the left-that's why he was targeted.
Almost every male member of congress could be brought down the same way, and will be if they anger the plutes.

How many networks didn't run multiple stories-day after day on Weiner?
How many have run even one story on Clarence Thomas' bribe taking?

You kid yourself, 'darling'.

Did anybody see the frenzied Liberals yelling at Breitbart on the news last night? The Liberal was throwing all kinds of crazy stuff against the wall to see if it would stick. None of it did. The Liberal just ended up looking impotent a foolish. Then the Liberals were all gathering together and hiding inside the convention center yelling out the door calling Breitbart a coward. Breitbart was outnumbered by about 20 to 1 and he was in the Liberal lair. Not one of them stepped outside alone with him to call him a coward. They really came off as infantile and impotent.

Not nearly as pathetic as the attention seeking hound Breitbart trying to make a scene crashing a progressive function. I was there, he tried to get onto the conference floor without paying, meekly whining something that he should have a press pass and get in. Of course they did not let him in. And as for him being outnumbered, he had a couple of goons with him as well. Believe me, he was not alone.

Nice attempt to re-write reality.
Did you see DimBulb's two beefy body guards?

ManhattanMC,
It looked to me, like those guys were escorting Breitbart out. It looked to me, like they were still inside with all the sissies yelling insults at Breitbart from inside the building.
01:42 PM on 06/21/2011
I hope Breitbart is equally concerned about politicians being held ransom by corporate donors and special interests thanks to our weak campaign finance laws.

DimBulb explicitly says his goal is to 'bring down the institutional left'.

I wouldn't hold my breath for his excoriations of Thomas or Vitter's new bribery scandal.

Vitter is quite obviously worse. After all, there's an actual crime involved.

That said, Vitter was recently reelected. I don't see much traction here.

the only thing that keeps Reagan, the Alzheimer poster boy, from being the worst president ever is Bush the less smart.

Breitbart has no sexual skeletons in the closet because as an online slime addict he spends all his time diddling his blackberry and only gets off when Dems go down.

Was seuring the nation from blackmail the motive for defaming Shirley Sherrod? What a fraud! He's so full of himself he's a sewer. There was that one hiccup over the Boehner Affair, Mike Stark asking the man on camera if he was sleeping with a paper lobbiest which seems to have been another "Breitbart," a false story intended to be picked up by reputable outlests to cover them in Breitbart. OR was it? Pray tell us, Breitbart, if that was a Breitbart or if there's any meat to that Boehner story!

Well, that could be another wonderful exercise
of a 'name.' Oh, wait, we've already done more than
our share of "Boehner" modifications.

..and in keeping with the "blackmail" rhetoric, isn't
Brietbart already covering that base by employing
his variant on the blackmail theme?
