Bill Kristol Predicts That John Thune Might Re-Enter 2012 Race

Thune Again

First Posted: 06/20/11 11:43 AM ET Updated: 08/20/11 06:12 AM ET

It's Monday, and are people any happier with the current state of the GOP field? I mean, Jon Huntsman is going to join up this week! How does that grab everybody? Well, mainly people are still waiting for someone new to jump into the race and be the 2012 version of Fred Thompson. So far, attention has centered on people like Rick Perry, or another player to be named later.

So here's some high-grade speculation to start your week: what about the players who were named earlier who opted out and may change their minds, fingers crossed? Well, that's where The Weekly Standard's Bill Kristol comes in, according to The Hill's Bob Cusack:

Bill Kristol said Monday that Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) is reconsidering his decision not to run for president in 2012.

Kristol, the editor of The Weekly Standard and a major player in the GOP, said Thune is "rethinking a bit" about launching a White House bid.

Pressed on the matter by C-SPAN host Steve Scully on the network's "Washington Journal" program, Kristol responded, "That's what I've been told."

Oh, yeah, John Thune. I remember that guy: he was sort of the handsome, Midwestern alternative to Tim Pawlenty, who hasn't even caught on as the handsome, Midwestern alternative to Mitch Daniels, let alone the handsome, Midwestern alternative to Mitt Romney. (None of these people should be confused with Rick Perry, who is the handsome "anti-Romney.")

No one knows anything about the source of these shadowy rumors that Kristol claims to have heard, and, as with all Kristol predictions, we remind you: your mileage will vary, some restrictions apply, void where prohibited. Thune's spokesman tells The Hill that the senator "remains focused" on Senate stuff. And Thune's wife, Kimberly, has previously expressed distaste for mounting a campaign, partly because she read "Game Change", a book about people telling shadowy rumors to reporters.

Well, we all know that this must be true since Kristol has such an excellent record, especially with regards to presidential elections. He was after all Pa/lins #1 cheerleader.

OK.
Then, Thune's "out."

Why?
Because Bill Kristol is Always Wrong!
I have won a lot of "bets" with people in the "political lane" in DC, by carefully listening to whatever crap Kristol is spewing at the moment -- and then bet the Exact Opposite!

I've even Googled his opinion on a topic before placing such bets.

It's a Sure Thing!

Kristol is crap.

Love it how the Repubs keeping trying to trot out someone else to run for President!

Shows you:
1) How desperate they really are
2) How desperate the TP is to NOT nominate Romney. The Republicans are currently letting the Tea Party (Ha!) dictate who they should nominate.
3) How horribly unimpressed they are with the firm of Romney, Bachmann, Pawlenty, Paul, Cain, and Company.

Pretty soon it will be ANYONE who is not a Democrat will be joining the race!

And let's all NOT forget: Kristol was the one who pushed Palin onto the GOP ticket in 2008. And who still believes to this day she is supremely qualified to be President of the U.S.

Say that out loud folks....and give pause every time you hear Kristol speak!!!

Just remember that no party has kept the White House, when unemployment is 7% or higher. Unless the jobless situation makes a dramatic improvement between now and the last announcement of the unemployment statistics before the November election, Obama has a poor chance of getting elected.

But then, I remember how the 1980 Republican field wasn't considered outstanding, and pundits thought the worst scenerio was Reagan winning the nomination. As it turned out, Richard Nixon could have beaten Jimmy Carter.

I'm going to go way out on a limb and make a prediction of my own. Someday Bill Kristol will be right about something.

Nah, I take that back.

I like Bill Kristol even if he is wrong on everything and helped persuade the nation to go to war for nothing. It's his eyebrows the way they're constantly knitted and point upwards. It gives him this seriousness and gravitas that you want to agree with him even when you know he's wrong.

Yes, I've noticed those eyebrows, too. They make him look so sincere. I don't trust eyebrows, they can easily manipulate you. ha

Yes, this is SUCH an outstanding group of candidates that the right-wing "intellectuals" are BEGGING for another candidate to enter the race. How pathetic. It looks good on them.

Tell me one thing that Bill Kristol has been correct on?  Sarah Palin, the Iraq War, W - I don't even know how this guy still has a Job because of his utter failures as a commentator.

What ever Kristol says, it always turns out Wrong.

Hahaha, funny article, Jason.

Although a better title would have been: Kristol predicts that Thune Might Maybe One Day Potentially Consider Thinking About Re-Entering 2012 Race.

If the former host of Comic Relief, star of such hits as City Slickers and Throw Mama from a Train, says it, it must be true!
