After six months off the air, Keith Olbermann returned to television Monday night with a new edition of "Countdown" on Current TV.

The hotly anticipated premiere featured appearances from some of Olbermann's contributors, including Michael Moore, John Dean and Markos Moulitsas, as well as a so-called "mini Special Comment" about Olbermann's vision for the show.

Read a recap of how the show went below, and watch the first Special Comment.

'Thank you for helping us preserve freedom of news. Good night, and good luck."

What did you think?

If he consistently takes his show into the 9 PM hour, Olbermann will be effectively going up against the beginning of Rachel Maddow's show. An intriguing development...

Share this:

"I was under the impression that you were in charge of your own guests," Moulitsas says. "Turns out Joe Scarborough has veto power." Some MSNBC-bashing just sneaks in as the hour ends! (Scarborough also gets called a "loser host.")

But not the show! Olbermann announces that, most every night, the show will go past the hour. As it has.

The banned-from-MSNBC Daily Kos chief talks the GOP.

Now playing video of that Obama impersonator. The racist jokes? Not very funny. The impression? He gets the mannerisms okay, but doesn't do the voice very well.

Share this:

Apparently there's now an "Inside The GOP Cult" segment. It leads with John McCain.

Share this:

Complete with organ music!

Bronze: Sarah Palin. Silver: Fox News' Bill Sammon and Chris Wallace. Gold: Some woman flipping out on a cell phone video!

And yes. He throws the paper.

Now playing on O'Reilly: Louis Armstrong singing "When The Saints Go Marching In."

Share this:

This show is almost exactly, beat for beat, guest for guest, like Olbermann's MSNBC show.

Share this:

Sample ad: even when we put two sumo wrestlers on the couch, it didn't move!

Share this:

Up next: Worst Persons! It's been so long...

Share this:

On right-wing radio hosts and their complicated (i.e. monetarily shady) relationship with some think tanks.

Share this:

"I'm not sure what is happening over there, but the final output audio wave file sounds dull and over compressed." We don't understand quite what he means, but the audio does sound a glitchy.

Share this:

"Time Marches On!" The successor to Oddball, we guess. YouTube videos galore! Olbermann also says he misses "Beverly Hills, 90120." Don't we all?

Share this:

"Vanguard: Gateway To Heroin." That looks interesting, and terrifying!

Share this:

Olbermann's old rival, Bill O'Reilly, is talking to a family therapist. His new one, Lawrence O'Donnell, is talking about taxes. A chyron sweeps across the lower third: Rachel Maddow, on soon to talk about Jon Stewart. Some counter-programming happening, perhaps?

Share this:

Olbermann turns to the Supreme Court's decision on the Wal-Mart class action lawsuit, and Clarence Thomas' ethical issue.

Share this:

Sample ad in New York during commercial break: WonderFile, the portable workstation!

Share this:

"This is to be a newscast of contextualization," he says, "and it is to be presented with a viewpoint that the weakest citizen of this country is more important than the strongest corporation." have a viewpoint."

Up next: John Dean.

Share this:

Seems slightly smaller than the MSNBC set, and has a red, white and blue theme. Pictures ranging from Martin Luther King to President Bush (in "Mission Accomplished" flight suit) line it.

Share this:

Share this:

"I'm honored to be your first guest," he says. Are those pictures of Edward R. Murrow we see behind him?

"We really wanted [Obama] to show the right way to do things," Moore says.

Share this:

Share this:

First story: Libya. Olbermann not happy about the war (or "conflict") there, or the Obama administration's handling of it.

Share this:

"As I was saying," Olbermann begins.

Share this:

Same theme song, same "Which of these stories" intro...

Share this:

We know much of what is going to be in the premiere of the new "Countdown" because Keith Olbermann told us in a series of tweets. Among the segments: Michael Moore will talk about Libya, John Dean about the Supreme Court and Markos Moulitsas about that weird Obama impersonator. Also, there's a Special Comment and "Worst Persons." Seems a lot like the old show! But we shall see...

Kieth is absolutly right, when he speaks about the Super 12 Congress Commitee. It reminds me of Hitlers time. All the German people sat back quitely because they thought that killing Jews didn't affect them. Well most Americans are sitting back quitely today, because they don't think this Big Budget Cut is'nt going to effect them. How wrong they are. Look at the prices you pay @ the grocery store. My grocery bill has doubled since last year. Not because we eat more. We pay double the amount for gasoline @ the pumps. The prices of everyting has doubled in the past 4 years. We are living outside of our wallets. Are you mad yet? You ask; what does this all have to do witcongress to pass will come from The Super Congress Commitee. Your vote doesn't matter any more.. There will be no voting forh the Super 12 Congress Commitee? Well all bills being drawn up for the Super 12 Congress Commitee. Your voted will no longer be needed to make decissions.. Super 12 is a Congress outside of a Congress. Your civil rights are being violated by allowing another Congress within Congress. It takes away power from your local elected Congress People. Your voice wont be heard. It's like slamming the door in tour face, when you have every right to be in that room.Don't be like the German People. Speak out now. Ralley For Your Rights. I've always liked Countdown, but I don't have cable. The Internet version is very scanty. Any chance of getting full episodes uploaded?

What a shame... I loved Current TV, particularly for Infomania, Vanguard, and the Rotten Tomatoes Show, and Keith Olbermann is slowly destroying what made Current unique and edgy.

Perhaps you'd enjoy watching FOX news? Quit complaining and man up.

Ew, Fox News? Thanks for providing more proof that you Keith Olbermann fans know nothing about Current TV and what it was all about. R.I.P Current.

Also, "man up" is a very heteronormative thing to say.

Sending an email to Comcast.

Asking them to add Current TV, Channel 107, to their basic package.

His show was so great and I was so happy all week that he is back! I hope he does cut into Rachel's program. I for one have cancelled her off my DVR as I did all of MSNBC's programs except Hardball. They all backstabbed him. I am so glad that the show is almost exactly what it used to be. Its what I have missed, that exact show. And now its back. And now I'm happy again. None of them ever came even close to what Keith's show is. They all just go on and on and on and over act. Phoney outrage. I don't miss any of them!
