Apple Announces New Time Capsule In 2TB And 3TB Models

Apple Announces New Product

New models of Apple's Time Capsule wireless backup devices have been announced.

The new Time Capsules will be offered in 2TB and 3TB models, with pricing starting at $299. Previously, the 2TB model cost $499, and a 1TB model cost $299.

The new models allow users to back up their information wirelessly. It also operates as a dual-band 802.11n wireless AirPort Extreme station. The model is compatible with both Mac and PC devices, as well as with wireless devices including the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Apple TV.

Users can also connect to printers or additional harddrives with the Time Capsule. Apple says that the new Time Capsule requires one initial backup, after which, only new files are backed up, through a wireless connection. The speed of backing up is apparently up to 60 percent faster than it used to be.

Apple is rumored to have more product releases coming soon. Reports indicate a new AirPort Extreme model will also soon hit the shelves. According to 9 to 5 Mac, the FCC database inadvertently confirmed the new AirPort Extreme configuration, which is expected to be offered at a lower price than the current model.

Engadget speculates that the new AirPort Extreme will be released "with support for the new three-stream standard for 450Mbps over both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands."

It's also been rumored that Apple will release new Mac Minis and Mac Pros, as well as black MacBook Airs, though the latter has been all but debunked.
