James Blunt Poses Near Auschwitz And Angers Fans

James Blunt Near Auschwitz

First Posted: 06/21/11 11:36 AM ET Updated: 08/21/11 06:12 AM ET

Fans are not happy with James Blunt.

The "You're Beautiful" singer enraged fans by posing outside a dilapidated building near former Nazi death camp Auschwitz, and writing on his Facebook page: "Uh, this is my hotel in Poland," reports The Daily Mail.

Since the photo went up on Saturday, Blunt's Facebook page has been flooded with more than 17,000 comments and complaints regarding the bizarre remark made during his stay in Oświęcim, where Auschwitz is located.

According to The Daily Mail, the singer was actually staying in five-star accommodations throughout his tour, which included a stop at the Life Festival at Mosir Stadium, just a few miles from the site where hundreds of thousands were killed more than 60 years ago.

Despite the barrage of negative comments from fans the photo remains on Blunt's Facebook page.

if it's a joke it's not funny.......but then I don't see a reason to make a big deal out of it

can anyone say anything anymore? For God's sake.

It's ironic that censorship was Hitler's favorite tool.

What, how is this controversial?
12:49 PM on 06/22/2011
Come on, really? Talk about manufacturing a controversy out of nothing. Does no one have any ability to think critically anymore?

So, let's follow the logic here....

If I was in New York at a dilapidated, or partially constructed building and made the same post as James Blunt did....would everyone assume I was mocking the 9/11 tragedy??

Probably... and that is sad.

I am more enraged over the screeching he did in that obnoxious song, "You're Beautiful." He sounded like he was straining in an attempt to alleviate his constipation.

Seems a bit of a stretch. Maybe there's something we're missing. If he was at the camp it would be bad, but this?

does not look like a dilapidated building--looks like one that is new construction that hasnt been finished yet so what;s the big thing about it

Why is this offensive? The man was in a town near Auschwitz, not at the location. Why is there a connection being made between him and the Holocaust at all because of the vicinity? I study the Holocaust and would be the first to be offended by a denier or mocker, but this is silly. It's unfair to Mr. Blunt to make this connection when he didn't.

Jeez, now this guy's going to have to deal with people asking him about his "holocaust joke" because of another misleading headline on HP. If I were him I'd sue.

Okay people, it's time we stop letting ourselves get whipped into an emotional tornado by these phony media-fueled controversies. Blunt was NEAR Auschwitz not AT Auschwitz. The picture was him standing in front of a hotel under construction. You have to really want it to believe that Blunt's intention was to mock the Holocaust. And if you truly believe that that was his intention this comment is not directed at you.
