Versace And H&M To Collaborate For Fall (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Next up for H&M? Why, it's Donatella, darling!

Women's Wear Daily reports that Versace will team up with the fast fashion chain for fall on a collection of womenswear, men's clothes and home items to his stores November 17. Versace will also put together a pre-spring collection to be sold online in select countries come January 19, 2012.

The Telegraph has even more details:

The womenswear collection will be dominated by dresses featuring studded leather, silk and colorful print, with accessories including high heels and costume jewellery. The men's collection will focus on sharp tailoring, including 'the perfect tuxedo', as well as belts and jewellery, while for the first time in a designer collaboration at H&M, the collection will include some homeware pieces, including cushions and a bedspread.

Donatella said in a statement, "I am thrilled to be collaborating with H&M and to have the opportunity of reaching their wide audience. The collection will be quintessential Versace, perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere." And the crowd went wild. Check out her official announcement below.

Interestingly, she previously declined offers to do a lower-priced diffusion collection. The Cut reported back in 2008 that Donatella told the audience at a New York Times' TimesTalk series, "I respect everyone who does [those types of lines]. But the reason I didn't do it is because I work very hard to put the Versace line in the luxury section. I think to put the Versace line in H&M would confuse the brand."

Fortunately for our closets, and unfortunately for our bank accounts, she became un-confused.

Here's a sneak peek at the collection, via Vogue UK.

new clothes being made all the time....why isn't the world flooded with fabric by now? Where do all the millions of clothes from seasons past go?? What happens to them? Is it really necessary to keep making new clothes so frequently?

It's amazing how when these designers start seeing their peers embrace us regular folks and making plenty of money with affordable lines, they change their minds. Vera Wang, Isaac Mizrahi, Chloe Dao and on and on....all offer great quality clothing at affordable prices. When H & M had Jimmy Choo's, I scooped up several pair for myself, my BFF and cousins. I love Isaac Mizrahi and I buy some of his things on QVC...they look even better in person than on TV. So Donnatella had to rethink her position because Haute Couture doesn't keep them in the black, it's their RTW lines. Victoria Beckham has the same snobbish attitude but just wait, I'll bet just about anything that sooner or later she'll wind in H & M, or on QVC or HSN.

I have no problem with Versace but I find it hard to believe that they will be able to pull off the Versace look at a lower price point without it looking cheap and tacky. The foundation of the brand is gold and opulent prints and leather, how can that translate to a wide market retailer like H&M?

How could or would any woman with taste follow any suggestion by Donatella Versace, one of the ugliest faces/bad legs in the designer marketplace?!!! Really, she's soooo distastefully unattractive, wears horrible designs and looks absolutely plastic! I can't believe what she will produce to hawk at H&M, but I can't wait to see what the already unattractive and fat 14 yos will be wearing this coming year!!!
