I don't know why so much talk about politicians, corn, turkey isn't this the land of the free?? Homosexuality has been around since the beginning of time and it is only this country that can't handle it?? If this is really the land of the free what is wrong with it?? There are going to be more states that approve gay marraiges and it is time that Americans wake up and know that these people are good citizens, very clean, (Most of them) careing and don't cause any problems for anyone. Nobody knows what make a person gay or straight, back in the good old days we said it was a sickness and tried to treat it as such??

This article has sensationalism written all over it. As a New Yorker, I'll readily admit that state politics are incredibly corrupt and at times, embarrassingly slow moving. Now with that being said, NY happens to be one of the few states with a functioning progressive movement, and as a result, we're well ahead of the curve on green energy, campaign finance reform, and despite Cuomo's successful attempt to block renewal of the millionaires' tax, progressive taxation.

Just about any legislature handles an enormous amount of bills. Many of them, like the aforementioned in this article, are completely pointless. But we've just raised the bar again. You're welcome.

This is a perfect case of sensational journalism. Are these things stupid and unimportant? Of course. Are civil rights issues far more important and more deserving of attention? Of course. But isn't it easier to say, "Does everyone like sweet corn?" And to count the resounding "YEAH!" as a vote in the affirmative? Of course it's easier. These bills got passed first because they were inconsequential. Gay rights is a slightly more controversial and consequential issue, and understandably scared a lot of people, including self-serving politicians. This article is just taking trying to make them seem more incompetent, as if they need help doing that.

I agree ... in part.

On the surface, yes these things look foolish at the best. But to a corn farmer not so unimportant...to a wheelchair bound avid hunter...not so stupid. What they all have in common is they cost nothing, and they give a feel good moment to the district the politicians are representing.

Good grief, at least each and every one of these is better than pardoning a turkey.

Well put. I stand corrected.

I'd also like to add: Turkey is delicious.
