7. A day job will overcome the social isolation of a writer's life. Ever wondered why the "greats" became so crotchety in their later years? Way too much time ALONE (which is what it actually takes to be a great writer). Keep the day job. Stay happy.

Blatantly obvious that this woman isn’t writing commercial fiction (where you’re expected to produce two books a year, minimum). A year and half on one book? Yeah, keep your day job.

Lawrence Block wrote the first Matthew Scudder novel in about two weeks.  Hell, if you can sustain your creative drive you could knock off a thousand words or so a day.

6. A day job can also give you access to a photocopier for "free" copies of your works.
