WATCH: Maddow Not Happy With Obama Speech

Rachel Maddow pronounced herself disappointed by President Obama's Wednesday night speech on Afghanistan, saying it signaled "a further continuation" of the war "for years to come."

Maddow opened her show by noting that Obama's purported withdrawal would leave twice as many troops in the country as were there when he came into office. She lamented that, even after the killing of Osama bin Laden, and amidst a rising tide of public disapproval of the war, Obama was not winding hostilities down.

"The war in Afghanistan is not ending any faster than we thought it was going to before tonight," she said. "The war in Afghanistan is not ending any faster than we thought it was going to before Osama bin Laden was killed."

After pointing out that, if the war were a child "it would be in the fifth grade," Maddow concluded that the speech had only raised a series of questions. Among them:

"Does the president care that the public is almost uniformly in favor of getting U.S. troops out and fast? ... And if he doesn't, why doesn't he?"
