WASHINGTON (RNS) The Dalai Lama will visit Washington next month for an 11-day peace rally that is being billed as "the largest gathering for world peace in history."

The July 6-16 "Kalachakra for World Peace" aims to "amplify the profound, unshakable commitment of (the Dalai Lama) to values such as love, compassion, wisdom and interfaith harmony," according to publicity materials.

The first day of the event will mark the Dalai Lama's 76th birthday.

Event activities include dancing, chanting of prayers and teachings by the Dalai Lama on Tibetan Buddhist principles. Like other events hosted by the Dalai Lama, Buddhist monks will create a colorful and detailed sand mandala, or mural, that will be swept away to illustrate the impermanence of life.

A Kalachakra is an ancient Buddhist ceremony that is "capable of creating ... peace of spirit and therefore peace in the world," according to organizers at the Capital Area Tibetan Association, which is hosting the event.

While the ceremony is intended to school Buddhists in various stages of spiritual discipline, organizers also welcome visitors, saying "observers are welcome simply to watch the ritual, absorb what they wish of the teachings, and receive the blessing."

The D.C. event will be the 31st ceremony of its kind overseen by the current Dalai Lama, and promoters say the location in the nation's capital is "of particular significance" as it is "the leading hub of the free world where local decisions deeply and globally affect an incalculable number of lives."

The Dalai Lama's visit comes just months after he announced his retirement from his role as political leader of Tibet's government-in-exile. While he remains the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists, the Dalai Lama said his people need their own freely elected head of government.

What is hidden behind the Kalachakra?

In Sanskrit, Kalachakra means “The Wheel of Time.” The Kalachakra Tantra, as well the sacred text used in its ritualistic performance, is considered to be “the pinnacle of all Buddhist systems.” Included in the Kalchakra Tantra are: the construction of a so-called Sand Mandala, which symbolizes the cosmos, an apocalyptic prophecy known as the Shambhala Myth, and several top-secret initiations.

This complicated mystical ritual is presented by the Dalai Lama and the organizers of the event as a dignified and uplifting contribution to world peace, which fosters compassion with all living beings, inter-religious dialog, interracial tolerance, ecological awareness, sexual equality, inner peace, spiritual development, and bliss for the third millennium (Kalachakra for World Peace). One of the Dalai Lama’s mottos for the whole performance is: “Because we all share this small planet earth, we have to learn to live in harmony and peace with each other and with nature.”

But are the Kalachakra Tantra and the Shambhala Myth truly pacifist? Do they really encourage harmony and cooperation among people? Do they make any real contribution to freedom and justice, equality of gender, religious tolerance or ethnic reconciliation? Are they a comprehensive, politically humanist, democratic and non-violent contribution to world peace?

(T)he vision and the practices of the Kalachakra Tantra are neither compatible with fundamentals of Buddha’s teachings nor with basic principles of Western Enlightenment. Therein are included an apocalyptic war of religion, the aggressive application of super-weapons, radical transgressions of a humanistic moral code, the dissolution of the ego and the soul of the participants of the ritual, the totalitarian subjugation under the will of the guru, the idea of an imperial and global lama-state (Buddhocracy), and the concept of an absolutist world ruler, the Chakravartin. The sexual rites in the higher initiations of this occult ritual have to be designated as a manipulation of erotic love and a misuse of female energy to produce spiritual and worldly power of men and monks. So the equality of the sexes, democratic decision making, and ecumenical movements are in themselves foreign to the nature of the Kalachakra Tantra.” The two German cultural philosophers created the Critical Forum Kalachakra (http://www.trimondi.de/Kalachakra/dec.eng..htm) to open a wide-ranging debate over the hidden “dark sides” of the Tantra, and they published many other articles, including a pamphlet, Eight Questions to the 14th Dalai Lama on the Topic of the Kalachakra (http://www.trimondi.de/EN/deba03.html).

Adding to the disgrace regarding Kalachakra Tantra ritual.
In “A Talk on the Tibetan Culture” by Yelu Dashi, the readers will be able to witness the appalling central idea behind the “Kalachakra Tantra” ritual and “Shambala Kingdom,” the writer attributes its rich resources of information with reference to several German Tibetan Experts (to be seen in the book.)
This book clearly corroborates Prof. Georg Schmid, The Trimondis, and Prof. Andrei Znamenski’s conclusions.

Chapter 9-12 Kalachakra Tantra
Chapter 14-15 Shambhala
Chapter 16 Mandala
Chapter 17 The 14th Dalai Lama’s Cultivation on Kalachakra

Excerpts from
Chapter 14-15, Shambhala
p. 69-72: “Shambhala derives from the Kalachakra Tantra, which is the core essence of the Lamaism religion and its political guidance to control the world. All the lamas are preparing for the ‘final war of religion’ in 2327, Rudra Chakrin (wrathful wheeler), Emperor of Shambhala, will lead a battle to destroy all enemies other than Lamaism. Its mission statement is to build up an imperial and global lama-state, control the whole world, and fulfill the concept of an absolutist world ruler. The idea of Shambhala kingdom is the lama’s ultimate aim of political strategy.”
01:23 AM on 07/08/2011
p. 76: “If the Kalachakra Tantra was indeed passed down from Buddha Sakyamuni, he must have forgotten all his commitments to the sentient beings then, since one of the fundamental focus points in Kalachakra Tantra is the aggressive application of seven super-weapons, which are all in various shapes of wheels in order to wipe out the enemies.”

Chapter 16 Mandala,
p. 84-87: “If a mandala was not built on the lamas’ domain, the lama must initially conquer or destroy all the non-Lamaist spirits resided in this region through visualization…(details of various horrible means of killing). The real concept of setting up the mandala is to recruit more energies and territories in terms of the lamas’ power. This gives the answer to why Tibetan lamas are presiding Kalachakra Tantra ritual all over the world as oftentimes as possible.”

A person with courage jumps out of the Tibetan Buddhism tells us:
“WHAT is in the KALACHAKRA TANTRA?”

There are teachings about being a Bodhisattva, being kind, etc. Some of the teachings that I was getting in my lessons from my Tibetan teacher are in there. But this Commentary on the Kalachkra Tantra, after talking about morals, begins to talk about the practice:

The Commentary of the Kalachakra Tantra

"ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE RECEIVED THE KALACAKRA INITIATION ARE PERMITTED TO READ THIS MATERIAL" This book was written by a well known Tibetan teacher that lived in Tibet before coming to Seattle, Washington. In this book he states:

"If the secrets are not kept, one's head and heart will burst."

"If one keeps the secrets, this water will turn into nectar, which gives rise to the siddhis or realizations; but if one fails to do so, it shall turn into the molten iron of the hell realm. This indicates the great danger of disclosing tantric secrets to those who are not fit to receive them."

Did Buddha Teach the Tantras?

(...) I first sought out sources from the Theravada Buddhists and then online research. Ven. S. Dhammika wrote this:

"Esoterism is the idea that some spiritual teachings should be kept secret from the majority and only be revealed to a select few. The Upanishads, which were composed around the time of the Buddha, were secret teachings only made available to high caste people who pledged total loyalty to the teacher. Even in Tibetan Buddhism or Vajrayana, some teachings are reserved only to those who have been initiated. The idea that the Dhamma should be restricted to or monopolized by an ‘in-group’ was repugnant to the Buddha. He perceived the truths he taught as being understandable to all, relevant to all and applicable to all. On one occasion he said, ‘Three things shine openly, not in secret. What three? The orb of the moon, the orb of the sun and the Dhamma and discipline taught by the Tathàgata’ (Anguttara Nikaya I. 283). He reiterated this same point just before his final passing when he said; ‘I have proclaimed the Dhamma without any idea of a hidden and open teaching. I do not have the closed fist of the teacher who holds anything back’ (Digha Nikaya II. 100).

History repeats itself.
This corroborates what Bodhisattva Xuanzang stated in the Tang Dynasty: “It is difficult for the correct dharmas to manifest if the erroneous ones are not destroyed.”
May we all be aware of the endeavors towards the following goals:
“To protect females from being sexually abused by lamas,”
“to protect the Buddhist practitioners who want to learn the Buddha dharma from being deceived and misled,”
“to uphold the Buddha’s true dharma,”
“to rid Buddhism of non-Buddhist elements and restore it to its original state; to tell the world that Lamaism, with its Couple-Practice Tantra, is definitely not Buddhism.”

Our profound gratitude to all the protectors of the true Buddha Dharma.
Having greatest braveries like this need countless eons of righteous wisdom and cultivation.

Kind of peace ?

Der Standard (The “New York Times” of Vienna) published a cover article with the title, “A Warrior Ritual of the Dalai Lama: The Kalachakra,” and the conservative German Weekly Der Rheinische Merkur wrote: “Extremely wild warriors: what is hidden behind the Kalachakra – Thousands have attended the peace ritual of the Dalai Lama. But the ‘Religion of Happiness’ has also its dark sides.” Georg Schmid, Prof. for Religious Studies at the University Zürich (Switzerland) called attention to the fact that the Kalachakra Tantra was the product of the religious war between Buddhists and militant Moslems in India around the turn of the first millennium. It was under this influence that the Tantra changed fundamental Buddhist principles. “In this time,” said Professor Schmid, “Buddhism had adopted the law of its enemies and had developed a Buddhist concept of a holy war, a forthcoming apocalyptic conflict between friend and foe of the Buddha-way and a future Buddhist world dominium.” Alexander Berzin,(.....)
“A careful examination of the Buddhist texts, particularly The Kalachakra Tantra literature, reveals both external and internal levels of battle that could easily be called ‘holy wars.’ (...)
In both religions, leaders may exploit the external dimensions of holy war for political, economic, or personal gain by using it to rouse their troops to battle. Historical examples regarding Islam are well known; but one must not be rosy-eyed about Buddhism.” www.trimondi.de/EN/Kalachakra_2011.htm

Yes,10 years after 9/11! But what did happen exactly ten years before 9/11? In 1991 in New York City a so-called Kalachakra Sand Mandala was constructed, then destroyed by the Dalai Lama, and the sand was poured into the water near the World Trade Center. Two years later in 1993 another Wheel of Time (Kalachakra) Sand Mandala was built by Tibetan Monks in the lobby of Tower One. For over thirty days, many of the World Trade Center workers and visitors were invited to participate during the construction of this Mandala. Although these coincidences may be accidental, they prove that these two Kalachakra events were not a remedy for “national debt, wars, environmental disasters and terrorism.” If they did have any magical effect at all, it was to produce exactly the opposite.

This bothers me. They have 100 all over the U.S. and who knows where else and where they are buried?

I wonder about the power of these Tibetan lamas, but then I think, If they had powers, real magical powers, then they would still be in Tibet practicing their form of Buddhism. Well, not Buddhism. Tantric sex and black magic. Gopi Krishna who wrote the book, Living with Kundalini thought that this practice was not good at all:

"The Trimondis came to very similar conclusions as their American colleague Andrei Znamenski and other critical authors on the topic: “The teachings of the Buddha have so many treasures and wonderful insights, but the philosophy, the vision and the practices of the Kalachakra Tantra are neither compatible with fundamentals of Buddha’s teachings nor with basic principles of Western Enlightenment. Tantric Buddhism and AIDS (By Mary Finnigan):

The Tibetan lama Sogyal Rimpoche (...) the author of a best-seller, The Tibetan Book of Living And Dying, and appeared in Bertolucci's film Little Buddha. (...) He was also an alcoholic and a notorious womaniser. He died of drink in 1987. Before his death, he chose Osel Tenzin, an American student as his Successor. Osel died of Aids, after passing the HIV virus to several of his students.

(...)

"I was touched by his need for me," says one, who had a long relationship with a lama, "but it was difficult and strange, in no way a normal relationship. It fuelled my fantasies about having special qualities, but he debunked them. I felt empowered by him but though he treated me with respect, I was always aware he had other lovers."

(...)

Did she learn anything from her intimacy with the guru? "He gave me good advice, but I am left with a hangover of pain and confusion. I also have doubts about Buddhism. If anything, I have learnt to be more cautious."

The Dalai Lama has said many times, after meeting with the leaders of Western Buddhism centers, that women who have been mistreated should speak out publicly. He says they should "go to the newspapers, and, if necessary, to the police". There need to be many more arrests and court cases to bring public attention to this problem. Women should not be afraid to report assaults to the police.

I don't understand why so many women stay silent and keep the lamas' secrets after being treated so horribly. Victims of the lamas' abuse should get trauma therapy, and should organize to support each other. It's the women who have the power, because they know the lamas' secrets. They can tell everything to the newspapers and television.
04:09 PM on 07/07/2011
There is a lot of fear that the lamas threats may actually happen, don't you think that that is the reason why women stay silent? Then there are the court cases where even the women are treated like dirt, such as What did you do to cause this? Are you lying? and on and on. Unless these women band together they can't make a case against any lama.

Then there is the brainwashing. I saw women leaving in the Vedanta Society in tears, and even I could not get one of them to talk about it. Those closest to me had a lot to say. One woman had so much fear it was unbelievable, but she stayed. Why? Brainwashing.

June Campbell was very brave, and look what happened to her. How many years in therapy? How much criticism from the public. Didn't she leave Buddhism altogether?

Do the lamas really have powers to harm others from afar? I don't know. Like I said, If they had these powers Tibet would still be Tibet, but also June Campbell and the Trimondis would be dead.

Confession: "Living Buddha" I want my justice back
Ritual and sexuell abuse in the Tibetan Buddhism in Taiwan and the story of a brave women.

You shouldn't be blind for the negative side also of this religion !
Even the women should know that enlightenment is just made from clerical men for their mail adepts.
The women have just to serve them on this way with their sacrifice, their Gynergie ( the cruel absorbtion of the femail energie). The ritual female sacrifice is the essence of all the initiations, especialy the Kalachakra tantra. And many of the women getting defects by their body , their soul, their spirit. But they have to be silent, if they don't want to fall in total madness... But for an tantric Buddist all this is empty in any way, not existent, not real, like the world is just an illusion...

Yes, Ms. Chang is a very brave woman who wants her justice back. Her blog: http://www.shcstory.com/mystory.html

In Taiwan, cases like THIS break out every year. Those women as ritual sacrifices cry in darkness. And the lamas? Nothing will happen to them. Because the Tibetan Buddhists will declare those lamas are NOT real lamas although some of them are approved by the HHDL.

1. Firstly, all followers(male and female alike) have been constantly brained washed from the very beginning, that "treat your guru as the way you treat buddha, because guru is the one who teaches you in person."
2. After sexual assaults, all victims were threatened and vowed to keep mum, or they will be cursed to death and fall to hell.
3. Do you know how June Campbell was treated by the public when she revealed her true experience?
4. Even today, do you know how isolated this website is? In comparison with the masses who attend the Kalachakra Tantra.

If everyone could be so rational as you are, the lamas and their Tantric practice would not have lasted till today. Since the tantra practice is connected to the human nature of this desire realm. Just to share with you some of my understandings.

That is exactly what my spiritual teacher (lama) said to me when I took refuge, "I am Buddha because I teach what Buddha taught."

The lamas have been trained in compassion, kindness, and I wouldn't doubt if they didn't take lessons from a charm school, and so we tend to think that they are wonderful, enlightened beings who will teach us to be like them and who will bring us freedom, but instead many find themselves trapped in a web of deceit that is hard to get out of, and they don't find enlightenment at all. That is when they decide that the lama knows best, after all he is enlightened, so who am I to judge?

The secrets behind the Kalachakra-Initiation of the XIV. Dalai Lama in Washington DC - 2011

From 6 to 16 July 2011 the XIV. Dalai Lama will offer a Kalachakra-Tantra-Ritual in the “heart” of the US capital, Washington, DC. (www.kalachakra2011.com/)

In Sanskrit, Kalachakra means “The Wheel of Time”, but it is also the name of the supreme Tibetan Time God. The Kalachakra Tantra is considered by the lamas to be “the pinnacle of all Buddhist systems”. Over more than 35 years, many hundreds of thousands have been “initiated” through the Kalachakra Tantra by the XIV. Dalai Lama. These large numbers of initiates barely know anything about what this ritual actually entails, since alongside its public aspect it also has a strongly guarded secret side. In public, the Dalai Lama performs only the seven lowest initiations; the subsequent eight of the total of 15 initiations continue to remain top secret. Further reading: www.trimondi.de/EN/Kalachakra_2011.htm
02:06 AM on 07/06/2011
Many people think Kalachakra is a peaceful performance without understanding what it is.

Kalachakra has 15 initiations. The first part so-called Lower-level initiaions is showing to the public who just to take a rough look what it is. The second part so-called Highest-level initiations is just for a few "qualified" lamas. During this stage, the karma mudra (young women with ages from ten to twenty years) is necessary. The meister teaches the adepts how to do THAT thing with karma mudra. It will be conducted in secrecy because the meister and the adepts will have the SAME women as the ritual way.

Just think about the vision of the performance. The question we should ask is not who and how is "qualified", but is it a part of REAL religion?

More secrets of the 15 initiations:

Agreed. By studying the life and teachings of the Buddha, one will be able to discern between true Buddhism and false Buddhism. Tibetan Buddhism is in many ways the opposite of what the Buddha taught. The Buddha taught against dependence on ritual, against the establishment of monastic institutions and power structures, against the the caste system that was part of Tibetan society, and certainly he taught moderation and celibacy, not the orgiastic excesses that are part of the esoteric Kalachakra and other tantric rituals.

If you ever get into Buddhism please either learn from a Theravadin or a Zen Buddhist. You do not need a lama in your life. Read these posts and you will understand why
01:20 PM on 07/05/2011
Language and words are very limited when they come to explain the concept of the true Buddha Dharma. As the ancient Buddhist Zen patriarchs oftentimes stated, “I point with my finger to show you the moon up there, you should grasp the moon (truth), not my finger!”
Do you know anyone who does not have to die? Yes, the one who is able to break free from his (hers) karmic force of being reborn in the three (desire, form, formless) realms. That’s why such a cultivation method is called “liberation way.” Nevertheless, this is merely the level of Hinayana (small vehicle).
Similarly, when there is an entity which is not made to come into existence, does not belong to the three realms, exists primordially, and will never cease to exist either. It refers to the Buddha nature (Alaya vijnana) of every sentient being and is also the core essence of Buddhism. It is the origin of the truth and eternity that the whole mankind is searching for.
The Buddha stated in the “Heart Sutra,” “neither increasing nor decreasing, and neither arising nor ceasing.” These are some descriptions of the Buddha nature. In Buddhist term, it is known as the Middle-Way. So, the Middle-Way view is not decided and defined by our conscious mind or imagination.
12:28 AM on 07/06/2011
When the Buddha attained his unsurpassed perfect Buddhahood in this world, he recognized that the hardship and time period to reach Buddhahood is much too discouraging for most individuals in the three realms, that’s why there is a by product of cultivation, the Liberation-Way, which is obtainable for practitioners in a foreseeable lifetimes, provided that the practitioners do have the right view and methods from their master.
Tibetan Tantric gurus mislead their followers by teaching the lustful copulation practice between a male and a female, which they view as the ultimate cultivation method according to Tsongkhapa’s instructions in “The Great Exposition of Secret Mantra.” The Middle-Way view of Tibetan Tantric Buddhism, based on “the six vijnanas theory,” actually violates the Absolute Truth taught by Buddha Sakyamuni, which is the undefiled Tathagatagarbha dharma of “the eight vijnanas theory.”
12:32 AM on 07/06/2011
In the history of ancient India, the rise of the Tantric School was coupled with the downfall of orthodox Buddhism. In fact, the expansion of Tibetan Buddhism will inevitably lead to the decadence and, eventually, the replacement and eradication of orthodox Buddhism. That is because the Tibetan Tantric dharma is full of non-Buddhist eternalism and teachings centered on sexual pleasure—it is an earthly, desire-driven dharma disguised as Buddhism. In addition, the Tibetan Tantric gurus deliberately cover their worldly and obscene activities with Buddhist terms and call themselves sanghas. Once Tibetan Buddhism completely replaces and extinguishes orthodox Buddhism, there will be nothing left of the latter other
than Buddhist temples and sanghas, and its essence will be turned into a non-Buddhist religion based on the worship of ghosts.
01:43 PM on 07/04/2011
The average human life span is around 80-100 years.
How old is the Earth we live on? And why should everyone die without exception?
Once we were born, we ought to be alive forever; once we are in love, why should we be drifted apart later? To be honest, Buddhists are the most ambitious sort of individuals. Why should we die sooner or later? Buddhists are seeking for the answers, we are pursuing eternity!
Buddhism is studying the truth after death and before birth, because 80 years is much to short in comparison with the existence of the Earth. There are so many things we wish to fulfill.
Confucius once said, “I will be willing to die in the evening if I could have studied the path of truth in the morning!” That’s why the essence of Buddhism is called “supra-mundane wisdom,” or “prajna of true reality.”
Will you drive your Swedish “Koenigsegg” CCX at a speed of 90 km/hour while it possesses the potential for 390 km/hour?
A true Buddhist should be able to tell people about the true reality of births and deaths, nirvana truth, and the origin of existence, most importantly, the cultivation method regarding how to bring forth an individual’s prajna wisdom (enlightenment) for further cultivation.
The subjects of politics, peace, drugs, and compassion, which belong to Desire Realm, are merely worldly issues that any non-Buddhist with common knowledge will be able to tell. Please think it over.

Bravao! Shalom Tseng. Well said. It really summarizes why buddhists should study and practice Buddhism--to liberate oursevles from sufferings and seek for the truth of life--where we came from and where we will be. Question is--can Tibetan Buddhism help the buddhists achive these? I have been following the threads and seen a lot of interesting comments. Interestingly, whenever a seemingly "opposing" comment was posted, the person posting the comment is accused of being under the influence of PRC; other than the comments such as "these people clearly do not know what Buddhism is" or "clearly another PRC associate" , I do not seem to see any comments that are related to Buddhism itself.

Buddhism and Criticism - The True Face Of The Tibetan Buddhism

I also think that there is less critical discurs about tibetan Buddhism. since 40 years the Lamaismus is in the Western countries, and how many critical books are writen till now. Maybe the aggressif reactions of the lamaistic Gurus are not so funny!? Collin Goldner for exampel , the German psychologic author of the book "The Fall of the "God-King"" was bedroht by death from people of buddhistic tibetan circuls. Thinking by him self, is realy not what an good pupil of the Dharma should do! And there a many good pupils.

On Sex in Tantra: http://www.dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=3587&hilit=urgyen+chodron&start=100

Here is one post: Actually, it was the purpose. Women were believed to have transformational spiritual power, as well as generative power, so mixing sexual fluids and then consuming them was one way men believed they could gain this power for their own purposes.

"Actually according to Highest Yoga Tantra .. You do need sex to reach enlightenment, .. but that is another discussion.."

"LastLegend wrote: Hopefully you will transform the lust and don't let the lust transform you :rolling:"

Namdrol replied: "It is the path."

Again from Namdrol: “Sometimes, when you are an advanced practitioner, there are kinds of conduct you must keep secret until you have mastered stability in your practice. For example, eating meat, drinking wine, etc. these things were very shocking in ancient Buddhist India.”

He took out his comments on urine and feces later on.

Here is an elephant in the room.

Has the Dalai Lama had any tantric sex?

Yes? No? Don’t know?

He sounded very authoritative in his teachings on tantric sex based on the references presented on this forum. But the teachings are all for men (e.g. good to hold…etc). It is not clear at all if this tantric sex is “beneficial” to the woman.

It isn't beneficial to women. In earlier times, the practice was controlled by women, but in male-dominated Tibetan culture it was subverted and became a practice to empower the man by his taking the female wisdom-energy for his exclusive benefit.

HHDL has said in an interview that the main thing he feels he's missed out on as a celibate monk is sex. But he's remarkably authoritative about the fine details of tantric technique. Can we let the elephant out of the room, now?

Here's the real elephant in the room. How long have you two (if indeed you are different people) worked for the PRC? What year did you join the CCR?

Even better, just provide us all with a list of those lamas who have been convicted of sexual assault in any country. In this country, one is innocent until proven guilty. I know that's a hard concept for you guys in China to understand, but here in America lies, accusations and innuendo are not proof of anything.

If you have some proof, let's see it.

He is a Tantric Master. He has taught the sexual aspects of tantric for years and years, so my question is this: How can he be a tantric master and not have sex.

I have no idea if women can even become enlightened. When I was in the Vedanta Society they didn't believe that women could and would have to be reborn as a man. Of course I had to hear this from someone other than a guru. So that is a question for me as well.

I imagine that some women enjoy the sex and others don't get much out of it. I say this after reading an article about tantric sex and Swami Muktinanda: The Heart of the Secret. http://www.leavingsiddhayoga.net/caldwell.sarah.pdf

What I object to is the secrets, the rapes, and the threats given to women who do not comply.
