Each week HuffPost Entertainment will be chatting with eliminated contestants from Oxygen's new show, "The Glee Project," a reality series with a 7-episode arc on the hit show "Glee" on the line. We talked with Emily Vasquez, who was sent packing on the vulnerability episode, about her humor, fan reactions and what's next in her career.
How did you end up on "The Glee Project?"
I sent in a video with my manager, just me singing 16 bars, which is really short. I got a call back from there. Growing up I did musical theater, really off-off-off-off Broadway stuff. I went to the Fame high school and I've always known I want to pursue entertainment.
Were you a "Glee" fan before the show?
"Oh yes, since the first episode, the minute the first slushie hit Rachel's face I knew it was going to be great."
In the first episode you got to do what a lot of young girls (and boys) would love to get a chance to do -- flirt with Darren Criss. What kind of response did you get from fans?
"They attacked me! You would say the same thing in that position though, he's good looking. He's a cool guy, cute vanilla boy."
In general how has the fan reaction been on Twitter and the Internet?
"I think it's the wrong crowd, you know? Some of them get me, but some don't. I wish it was a more New York crowd. You get a lot of hate, at first I was reading it, but now I can't read it anymore."
You seemed like the class clown on the show, did you actively go after that role?
"I like to make people laugh, my dad's a clown too. I didn't take myself too seriously."
On this week's episode that might have been your downfall when the group had to convey deep insecurities. How did you react to the judges criticism that you weren't able to switch back and forth between humor and your vulnerability?
I respect their decision, they know much more than me. I had one of the most harsh insecurities to face. That was the first time I admitted it, I hide through humor.
Now that you're out of the running, who do you want to win?
"I want the people I'm closest to go the farthest, so I'd say either Alex or Marissa. They're all talented and I'm rooting for them."
What's next for you?
"I want to get signed to a label, I'm working with a producer and I have a single, "Slow Motion" that's coming to iTunes."
Do you want to pursue more singing than acting?
"I thought at first more singing, but I love being funny. I'd love to do Rent or In The Heights on Broadway. I'd do anything, everything, I'll have it all."
